Chapter One: A Guy With No Shirt On

Shailene's POV

"Shae, darling, your father and I are on our way to New York!" My mother screams at the bottom of the stairs as I scramble to my feet and ran towards them. I jump into her arms and she plants a kiss on my forehead.

"Take care of yourself, hun, okay?" I didn't reply because every single time before she leaves, she makes a big speech. "Don't leave the door unlocked, make sure to eat your meals, call me everynight..." And la-di-da-di-doo. "And last but not least, do not throw parties in this house!"

"Moooooom~" I whine, "You know I don't party and even if I do, no one will come. Did you not forget? I have no friends. Zeroo." Then I add, "I'm seveteen. I know what the difference is between right and wrong. I'll be fine."

My dad ruffles my hair, "I know, sweetbun. We are just worried." He turns the knob and the both of them stepped outside. The taxi was already parked at our driveway, waiting impatiently.

"I'm sure you'll have an amazing time with Lea." My mom tells me while she gives the taxi driver her suitcase. "I heard the James family is very sweet. And you're a babysitting expert."

"Aren't you meeting Lea's parents today?" My mother asks and I nod, "Yeah, I'm suppose to meet them at noon." I glance at my watch and it read nine o'clock in the morning. Way too early for a person to be a awake on a Saturday.

My mom's reassured smile appears on her face, "I'm positive you'll do another amazing job." She caresses my arm before walking towards the taxi with my dad.

I watch my parents enter inside. My mom rolls down the window and waves, "We will see you in two months, baby girl!" The taxi driver steps on the pedal and the car disappeared within ten seconds.

Closing the door, I run upstairs to my room and collapse on the bed. "Here goes another, lonesome summer." I say aloud since no one can really hear me.

I turn to my side and picked up the I-phone 5c my parents bought me a week ago. I told them it was completely unnecessary but they bought it for my safety. Technology is new to me. It's so complicated and I can't keep up.

A few girls at my school told me that I have a life of a granny. It hurted a bit of my feelings but I didn't let it get through me. Just because everyone has some brand new, the "in" phone doesn't mean you should get one to fit in.

I mean, some people in Sky Heaven Highschool get judged because they have an I-phone 4 and not that newest one. Does it really matter? The difference is only some features. Phones are for calling and texting not competition to whoever's got the latest.

I slide the bottom of the screen and unlock. But before I could click a new message, my phone started to vibrate. The screen showed, "Carrie". Ah, Lea's mom. "Hello? Sweetie? Shailene? Are you there?"

I smile, "Yes, Mrs. James?" She laughs at the end of the line, "Oh good, you answered! It seems that Joe and I's flight was pushed to an earlier flight. Is it okay if you could baby sit my precious Lea, now?"
