Chapter Twenty Seven: Us

Shailene's POV

Ever since Theo and I got back from our trip, everything drifted back to normal in a matter of days.

"Big Bruddah, teach me how twerk!"

Okay, maybe I talked too soon.

Climbing up the stairs of the James's home, I head towards Lea, and quickly sheilded her eyes.

"Theo! What are you doing?! What's going on?" I ask, irritated at the fact that I had to go up the stairs. I'm getting lazier and lazier everyday. Winter break just needs to end so I can go back to being active at school.

Oh wait a minute. School means seeing people... and seeing people is... ugh. Okay, besides the education, I take my words back.

Lea points towards Theo. "I knocked on Big bruddah's door and ask him to teach me how to twerk."

My jaw drops to the floor and my eyes avert to Theo who had the same face expression as I do. "Theo, what did you teach her? How does she know what that word means?!"

He puts his hand up as if he was in an arrest, "Hey, this time it isn't me. She just came knocking on my door asking me to teach her how to-"

"Oooookay," I interrupt Theo before he says the word once again, "Sorry, for accusing you."

"Shae Shae, do you know how to t-twerk?" Lea interrupts me, slightly stuttering.

"Well, n-"

"Do you know anyone who can teach me how to twerk?" Lea asks again with those winning begging eyes.

I kneel down so our eyes were leveled, "Lea, do you know what that 'word' means? It's not something you should know at your age and it's definitely not appropriate for you too."

She shakes her head vigorously, "N-No, but the boy that I want to be friend with in my class said that if I can twerk, he'll be my friend.. And I don't know how to so..."

Her lips trembles as if she was going to cry but Lea kept her tears in bay. "I'm so sowwy, I didn't know it was a bad thing."

I kneel down so that our eyes were leveled. "You don't have to apologize. As long as you know that it's not something you should be doing, you're okay."

Lea nods her head eagerly and hugs me tight. I moved my hand up and down her back comfortingly, "And Lea, as you get older, remember that you shouldn't change yourself for someone else. Whether it's friendship or love, there's an amazing person out there who'll fall in love with you for who you are and will be lucky to have you!"

Lea pulls back from me slowly so we were face to face. "Really?" I nodded my head and smiled, "Really."

"Like how Shailene is lucky to have me." Lea and I both turned to Theo who was leaning against the door with a cocky smile, "Am I right?"

Theo winks at us while Lea and I turn to each other, "Bleh! Wrong!" We both jokingly say at the same time and giggled.

"Wipe those tears, darling." I softly say to Lea as I swept her bangs to the side, revealing her beautiful eyes. "You don't need boys at your age since they are still a little silly. Just enjoy and have fun doing the things you love, learn, and when you become older, you'll know it when the time is right!"
