Chapter Eleven: An Interesting Girl
Shailene's POV
Knock! Knock!
My mom knocks on the door and steps back in between my dad and I. She woke me up in the morning because today was the day a new family was moving in our city, Tulip.
I heard humming inside and footsteps thumping on the floor before the door clicks open. A young looking woman - maybe somewhere in her early thirties - opens the door with a smile.
"Oh hi! You must be the real estates right? Please, come in!" She gestures her hand for us to go inside and we do. The smell of forest and cardboard material enters my nose.
I survey the surroundings and their place was almost fully furnished except with a few open boxes lying around. We sit down on a white leather sofa and the woman sits across from us.
A man with a gentle expression sets a cup of two coffee on the glass table in the middle and sits down with the woman. When everyone was comfortable in their place, my mom starts the usual speech.
"Hi, I'm Debby and my husband's name is Cole. This one here," she puts an arm around me, "is my daughter, Shailene. We're the Woodley family."
The young woman smiles, "I'm Bridgit and this is my husband, Shane. We have two sons-" More thumping sounds came and a little boy reaches the bottom of the stairs, making his way beside Bridgit.
Bridgit laughs, "And this is one of them. His name is Leo, and he's five years old. My other one is not here right now. He's at high school, registering himself. He's an independent one." Then she adds, "We are the Lautner family."
"Oh really? Our Shailene is independent too!" My mom says with interest. "That's nice! How old is your daughter?" Bridgit asks. "She just turned eighteen!" My mom replies.
"Taylor is too. What high school do you go to?" Shane asks me. He probably doesn't know yet that Tulip only has one high school due to low population. "I go to Sky Heaven High school, sir."
Shane nods his head as if he was satisfied. "That's good. Our son will be too." He tells me and I smile. "Did you know our daughter has babysat over half of the kids here in Tulip City?" My mom asks them and both parents eyes bulge.
"Wow, oh my did she really?" Shane asks and my mom nods. "This summer, she babysat our neighbour's five year old named Lea. She could babysit your cute five year old, Leo if you want!"
Shane and Bridgit looked at each other with a plan already way ahead in mind and turned their attention back to my mom.
"We would love that. Especially with night shifts if that's okay. My son, Taylor, is usually busy at night so we cannot rely on him too much. It would be good if she could babysit six to nine. Sometimes my husband and I have night shifts so she might have to sleep over..."
"Is that okay with you, Shailene?" They asked me and I nod, "That's okay. I'll bring my homework with me. But about the sleeping over at night, I kind of, can't, do it on a school day. Probably Fridays?"
