Chapter Five: One Interesting Week

Theo's POV

I watch Shailene eat her pancakes with a happy face. But it's so easy to see that her smile is fake and that there is something obviously bothering her. Even if I try to bring it up, she shakes it off and tells me she's fine.

        Don't joke around with me, Shailene, I mentally tell her, you think I don't know you? I've liked you since we've met. You're the only person I had eyes on. I've known you for the longest time than anybody and there's no way I wouldn't know when something's up.

       She catches me staring at her, "What?" I shake my head, "Nothing.." Shailene turns away from me and continues to play with Lea. "Are you really okay, Shae Shae?"

      "I'm totally fine! Your breakfast was really yummy! But we need to start cleaning up, okay? Let's head downstairs." Shailene takes Lea's hand and they each held the plates. "Want me to-"

      "No." Shailene says with a glance of coldness and bitterness in her words. "We've got this." Both of them turned around and exited the room. What did I do so wrong to make her mad?  One second she's happy, the next is all gloomy, and hollow. 

Brr..! Brr..!

I pick up my vibrating phone. Hm, I have a new text message from Brittney.

Brittney: Geez, Theo. You've seen the text message and you just ignore it? Rudeee. jkjk.

Wait, what text message? I scroll up to see a picture of Brittney kissing my cheek. It was sent just a few minutes ago but I've never seen this...

        My eyes open wide as I come to realization. Ahh... Is this why Shailene was mad at me?  Silly, silly girl.

Me: Sorry, I was busy.

Brittney: It's okay! I hope we get together soon. I miss and love you.:*

I click the lock button of my phone and head downstairs. Ooohh... I'm looking forward to teasing you, my dear Shailene.

As I reach the bottom of the stairs, I only see Shailene and not Lea. "Where's Lea?" I ask as I approach her. Shailene continues to wash the dishes, "A girl named Sarah from her school came over a while ago. Sarah asked if Lea wanted to play and I let her. I was going to come with them but Sarah's parent suggested that there's no need becaude they'll do accompany them."

         I watch Shailene put the last plate on the stack and wipes her hand on the hanging cloth. My phone vibrates again.

Brittney: See what I mean? You didn't reply again Theoooo!!

Brittney: Hello??

Me: I'm here.

Brittney: Forget it. I'm calling you.

I answer Brittney's call, "Oh hey, Brittney!" I purposely say out loud and seeing I got Shailene's attention scored me one point. "What's up, cutie?"

        "Why do you seem like you're shouting at me on the phone, Theo?" Brittney complains and hangs up. Okay, Brittney complains I don't reply to her but she hangs up on me on the phone. What's up with that? Tch, girls!
