Sophia was glad to hear that Draco was getting better. He soon returned from the hospital wing but he still looked like he had no hope. She was sad as she remembered what happened between the two of them. She was also glad that Jade and her were friends again. Breakfast seemed much happier now that she knew she could talk to her.
Later that day they heard the news about griffindor winning the quidditch cup. Sophia honestly didn't care about quidditch, not now. She was also studying harder than ever because their exams were approaching. Therefore she spent less time with Jade which really annoyed her.
Everything seemed normal until one day when everything, out of nowhere, went wrong.
She was just walking past the room of requirement as she ran into Weasley and his sister and Longbottom.
"What are you three just standing here," she asked confused. They looked at each other.
"I don't think we can tell you," the girl said. "You are friends with Malfoy, right?"
"Well you could say that, although he kind of hates his friends right now," she said annoyed.
"We think he is in the room of requirement. That thing he has been trying to do all year? Harry thinks it worked and he thinks Malfoy will try to do something now that Dumbledore left-"
"When did that happen," Sophia said. She was grtting more and more confused.
"Doesn't matter. We are just here in case something actually happ-"
The Weasley girl wasn't able to finish the sentence as suddenly everything went dark. Sophia quickly grabbed her wand. They tried every spell but they couldn't see a thing. They heard some people were rushing by.
If Malfoy is really up to something bad I'll kill him, Sophia thought.
"It's Peruvian Instant Darkness Powder," Weasley said. "Fred and George's."
By the time they reached a corridor that was light, they were all gone. They ran into someone that all of them recognised except Sophia. The Weasley told them what happened and then minutes later they found the Death Eathers heading towards the astronomy tower. They started fighting. Curses were flying everywhere and Sophia was more than glad that she studied all those spells so hard during the year. She saw than some more people joined the fight and some professors as well. Curses barely missed her but she managed to finnaly take down one of the Death Eathers. She then remembered what was going on in the Astronomy Tower so she ran upstairs but stoped on half a way so they couldn't see her. Next to her there was Potter who has just covered himself with invisibility cloack a second later. She was suprised he had the cloak and then she looked up. She saw Draco standing before Dumbledore, his wand pointing directly at Dumbledore. She was in shock.
"No," she heard Draco say, "I've got back up. There are Death Eathers here in school tonight."
"Very good indeed. You found a way to let them in, did you?"
"Yeah. Right under your nose and you never realised!"
Sophia just stood there in shock. Even with everything that happened, everything Potter told her, she believed he was still good. And now she heard that he did let the Death Eathers in.
"They met some of your guard. They are having a fight down below. I came ahead. I - I've got a job to do."
"Well then you must get on and do it, my dear boy," she heard Dumbledore say. Sophia didn't know what was the job that he had to do but Draco did nothing.
"Draco, you are not a killer."
"How do you know? You don't know what I'm capable of! You don't know what I've done!" Sophia was now scared.
"Yes I do. You almost killed Katie Bell and Ronald Weasley. You have been trying to kill me all year.." Sophia stopped listening. All she could think about was that Draco wanted to murder Dumbledore. He did that to Katie. How could she be so stupid? How could she trust him?
After a moment she heard how Draco told how he managed to let Death Eather in. Potter was right all along.
"Yeah, well you still didn't realise who was behind that stuff, did you," sneered Draco.
"As a matter of fact I did. I was sure it was you."
"Why didn't you stop me then?"
Sophia listened as the conversation went on. They talked about Snape and about the mark.
"I haven't got any options! I've got to do it! He'll kill me! He'll kill my whole family!"
"I appreciate the difficulty of your situation. Why else do you think I have not confronted you before now? Because I knew that you would have been murdered if Lord Voldemort realised I suspected you."
Sophia was crying again. Her hart was breaking because of the pain that Draco was feeling. She realised how hard it must have been for him since You Know Who was treathening him. Sophia then realised that she has to return to the fight. She heard enough and they needed her.
When she came downstairs she saw that they were still fighting. She avoided the curses and stupefied one of them. She saw that some of them ran upstairs.
"Watch out," she said as she blocked the curse that was heading towards the Weasley girl. She looked at her, relieved.
"Thank you," the girl said and kept on fighting.
Suddenly all the Death Eathers left. They ran outside and what they saw shocked them. Under the Astronomy Tower there was Dumbledore, not moving. Dead. Sophia didn't know who killed him but she was sure it wasn't Malfoy. As much as he was pressured to do it he wasn't capable. She saw that Potter returned with Hagrid. After a few moments she saw him and all his friends who fought leave. She was assuming they were going to the hospital wing.
She was just standing there, thinking about all the things that happened this night. She was still in shock; during the year nothing like this happened and she wasn't expecting it.
"You should go to the hospital wing as well," she heard somebody say. She didn't recognised her.
"I'm not hurt."
"McGonogall said that all those who fought should come to the hospital wing."
And so Sophia went there. When she entered she saw Longbottom laying on a bed and there was somebody on the other bed with lots of people arond him. They all looked at her when she stepped inside.
"Who killed Dumbledore," she asked. Her voice was rough.
"Snape," said Potter. They all looked sad. Sophia was relieved but shocked.
"He was working for You Know Who after all?" she said. Nobody anwsered the question. It was already obvious. She sat on a chair near them.
"Did all of them leave? Snape, Draco?" Potter nodded. She sighed. Second later Jade rushed in.
"Sophia! Here you are, I was so worried when I heard the Death Eaters entered Hogwarts. And Dumbledore.." Sophia hugged her. She saw that Jade was also shocked.
"Where were you during the fight miss Morton?" asked McGonnagall. Sophia turned around.
"I fought with the others at first. Then I went to the tower and stayed there, hidden near Potter. I was listening to the conversation. I left before anyone else went to the tower. I fought for some time and then all the Death Eathers left." The Weasley boy looked uncomfortable.
"So..you are one of the good ones now? On our side?" Sophia was tired of everybody thinking slytherins are bad.
"Ron, she blocked one of the curses that was heading towards me." said his sister.
"I decided I want to be on the good side long time ago. And I know you would never believed me until you saw me actually doing something good," she said. "And since I am not on You Know Who's side I want to help you. I don't know how are you planning on stopping him, Potter, but I want to help. I can help wherever you need me." She saw how Potter, Granger and Weasley looked at each other.
"Harry she is really skilled you know. I saw her fighting. We had your liquid luck potion and all the curses seemed to just miss us but she didn't have any. And she managed to avoid the curses and she took down two Death Eathers. I know you three will be leaving and you won't take anybody else with you but maybe she can still help," said the Weasley girl. "She can stay here at Hogwarts like the rest of us and help us with whatever we will face here when Voldemort takes over the school." She seemed scared by that thought but not enough to lose the bravery in her eyes. Sophia gave her a smile.
"S - So let's just be clear...you wouldn't mind fighting against..well Malfoy? Since you two were friends?" said Weasley. She bit her lips. Even if Draco didn't kill Dumbledore he still chose the wrong side.
"I wouldn't mind. After all it would be for a good cause." she finnaly said.
"We will make a plan later. I have an idea about how can you help. Meanwhile," said Potter and turned to others, "we should think about how do we want D - Dumbledore's funeral to look like." Sophia felt that he was really sad even though he was trying to hold himself together. While they were talking she went outside with Jade. They went back to the common room which seemed weird. Such a normal thing in this terrible night.
