Heartbroken

The next morning Lily woke me as she barged into my room pushing the door so hard it left a dent in the wall it had bashed against before slamming shut again. Muttering a quick Reparo my red-haired sister shot me an indecipherable look before speaking.

'What's this I hear about you being in the shack with a werewolf last night?' she hissed.

With a heavy sigh, I motioned for her to join me in my bed and when she was comfortable situated I told her everything that had happened the night before.

'Sirius did that?'

As she asked me the same question in the same shocked tone for the fifth time I clambered out of bed and changed into clean clothes shoving Sirius' clothes into my trunk.

'Are you coming to breakfast?' I asked Lily.

'Yeah, come on.'

She was still distracted by the thought of Sirius almost killing her former best friend, we had almost made it to the Great Hall when she caught my elbow and pulled me into a hug.

'Thank you for helping save Sev...I know we're not friends anymore, but I would still be devastated if something happened to him last night.'

With her piece said Lily pulled away and we made our way towards the smell of food and the sound of chatter only to freeze at the door, without another thought I quickly pulled Lily back into the hallway before anyone noticed us standing in the doorway like fools.

'What the hell is he doing?!' Lily hissed.

'He's doing what he does best Lil, not thinking.' I sighed.

My boyfriend – or maybe he was my ex now – was currently sitting with Myrcella Vanti, the very same pretty Ravenclaw that had caused us to define our relationship.

'I'm going to kill him.' my sister seethed.

'No, you're going to ignore him, just like I am.' I told her. 'Now, come on, I'm starving.'

I linked my arm with Lily's and we silently made our way to the Gryffindor table sitting a few spaces up from Sirius with Marlene and Remus who were both throwing glares in Sirius' direction every now and then.

'Say the word Violet and I'll introduce him to a whole new world of hexes.' Remus informed me.

I looked at the most peaceful of my friends with shock for a minute before smiling softly and shaking my head.

'It's alright Moony, as soon as he stops thinking with anger and starts using his brain again he'll be sorry.'

I eyed Sirius and Myrcella carefully and with as much subtlety as possible, she was sitting extremely close to him and his hand rested at her waist while he listened intently to what she was saying. Surveying his face, I noted the gleam of mischief in his eyes, the easy smirk that crossed his lips and how overall, he looked just like my Sirius...the one whose arms I had fallen asleep in yesterday, but he couldn't be my Sirius. My Sirius respected me enough to understand that while I had no issue with him talking to other girls or even spending time with them I wasn't a fan of him touching them and I was most definitely not a fan of him holding them the way he held Myrcella. As I watched Myrcella and saw the happiness in her eyes and the excitement in her smile I realised something.

'He invited her to sit here didn't he.' I said to Marlene who nodded with anger.

I felt the familiar sting in my eyes as tears began to well up, I had assumed that Myrcella asked to sit with Sirius and he allowed her to annoy me, but he had actively sought her out and asked her to sit with him, so he could hurt me. Without saying another word, I rose to my feet and left the Great Hall, waiting until I was clear of the doors to allow my sobs to break free. I ran past countless people who looked at me with worry, a few even called out my name. Bursting into the common room I almost knocked over some of my classmates in my haste to make it to my room where I was to spend the next few hours hiding.

'Violet!' James' voice called for the fiftieth time.

My tears had subsided long ago, and I was now sitting on my bed, legs crossed, as I wondered how much detention I would have to serve for missing all my morning classes.

'Violet, please come down!' James begged again.

With a sigh, I rose from the bed and winced at my reflection in the mirror as I finally went to join the Head Boy in the common room. My face was puffy, and my eyes were red rimmed while my nose was swollen and red raw from blowing it.

James offered me a soft smile and opened his arms as I reached the bottom step, I stepped into his embrace with a sniffle.

'Your best friend is an ass.' I mumbled against his shoulder.

'I know.' James sighed.

James led me to the couch and we sat there for a while as he tried to comfort me.

'Cassie told your teachers that you've been ill, but you need to go back to class soon because if you go to the Hospital Wing they're going to know you're not sick.' James told me gently.

With a deep breath and a nod of my head I rose to my feet and James handed me my bag, Marlene must have grabbed it after I left breakfast that morning. I shouldered my bag and pulled my hair into something resembling a ponytail.

'How do I look?' I asked.

'Gorgeous.' James lied.

I scoffed lightly while simultaneously thanking God I had friends like James to rely on.

The two of us entered the DADA classroom just a few minutes late and Professor Novesse motioned me over to her desk where we spoke in hushed tones.

'How are you feeling? Your sister said you've been ill all morning.' her question was filled with concern.

I offered the teacher a soft smile and told her I felt much better before steeling myself for the rest of the lesson as I slid into my seat...next to Sirius. Ever so slowly I placed my stuff on the desk and turned to look at Professor Novesse trying to follow the lesson.

'Violet.' he said my name softly, barely above a whisper.

I felt my shoulders stiffen at the sound of his voice and I turned to face him with a blank expression.

'Don't speak to me.'

My voice was as expressionless as my face and it scared me a bit, I didn't bother viewing his reaction as I turned away once again and spent the rest of the lesson ignoring him.

I was sitting at my window again, late at night, pondering what to do about Sirius. He had hurt me deeply, to some girls their boyfriend sitting with another girl would be nothing but to me it meant so much more. He had held her waist, given her his undivided attention and treated her with affection to hurt me and it had worked. With a simple dismissal Sirius had all but broken my heart, because I had been silly enough to fall in love with him.
