Caroline checked her reflection in the car one more time. She had no make-up on. She felt it was unnecessary. She had only straightened her hair and she had on her knee-length gray dress with flower designs on it. She was extremely excited to be attending a gala.

She got out of her car and headed inside of the country club.
She definitely was not a member of it but she had been invited anyways by her aunt to help support charity. It made sense. Her aunt hated her but knew she had plenty of money to donate.

She didn't mind though. It was for a great cause. She entered through the huge wooden doors where a man in a tuxedo held the door for everyone. Caroline told her name to the woman at the desk, paid a fee for her card which she could use for bidding later on, and began to walk around. A large room filled with many people had items on display to bid on. Jewelry, wine bottles, signed sports equipment, and other expensive looking things.

Caroline suddenly saw a familiar face, James. She hurried over to her friend who stood hand in hand with his boyfriend, Mark. "James! Hi!"

He turned around, his eyes bright with happiness. "Caroline! I'm so glad you're here!"

"Same here. I was worried I'd end up sitting by myself."

"Well, once the event begins our table is number four, right in the front. Feel free to sit there."

"Thanks, James."

Caroline stood, applauding the woman who had just given a speech over homelessness. Everyone sat down and a man walked up to the front of the stage. There were chandeliers hanging from the cieling above him. Most of the lights were off and if any were on they were dim. He cleared his throat and looked from the mic to the crowd of people. "Hello, everyone. I'm Richard Hill and I am the founder of this country club. So, to help raise money for this charity we will begin the biddings. Remember that every last penny you pay goes straight to the organization."

People applauded and a woman came into the large dining room with a golden neclece. She held it out and walked around to show people as the biddings began. For a while they sold things that Caroline wasn't interested in, wine, wine glasses, sports stuff, jewelry, fancy clothing. Then, on the screen behind Richard, an image of a beautiful beach house popped up. It was sunny and there were palm trees surrounding the house.
"Bid on this and you get to stay for all of the summer here! You can bring along four other people. This house is located on Sanibel Island, a beautiful beach in Florida. So, let's begin the bidding at $10,000."

Caroline immediately raised her card. She was not losing this opportunity. It went on for a few more minutes until she raised her card for $20,000. A full summer? This was definitely worth it! The only way she was even able to afford this is because when her grandmother passed away four years ago she inherited $150 million dollars. Her bank account only grew, she had recently finished college and was almost immediately hired to be a neurosurgeon. She ended up going to college early since she skipped the fourth, sixth, and eighth grade. Caroline was now 24 years old. "Sold!" The man yelled enthusiastically. "To number two, seven, eight, nine! Congratulations!"

People clapped loudly and Caroline felt excitement worm it's way into her stomach. She was going to Florida!
