Chapter 1

Shay's POV

"Let's go, Shay! We are going to be late!" My best friend Scarlet yelled to me as I was walking behind her running on the sidewalk. Her purple hair bouncing and her black backpack shaking with her movements.

"You know I can't run that fast, Scar!" I yelled back, bringing my paste to a light jog, trying to keep up.

We approached Leonard High School, older students already lingering the outside, talking or fighting. Geesus, this school is going to be hard. 9th grade is going to be hard. Ugh, school.

"Hey, you ready?" I asked Scarlet and took a deep breath. She shook her head 'yes' and we both started to walk into the school premise. Most of the students just continued talking and minding their own business while me and Scarlet walked to the front of the building, thankful that we didn't get picked on.

"Oh my Lord, I thought for sure that the older kids were going to beat our ass." Scarlet whispered as we fast walked through the almost empty halls, seeing as we only had 2 minutes till class started.

"Same, oh here is our first class!" I almost tripped over myself as I stopped in front of the door. The sign beside it read, 'Mr. Iero - Science'. Science first class? Nice.

Mr. Iero was already waiting inside the classroom at his desk, watching everyone come in and take seats next to their friends. His eyes landed on me and Scar so I just have a smile and he gladly returned one.

"We don't have seats." I whispered to Scarlet, moving ourselves out of the way to not make a scene the first day.

"Back there." My best friends head nodded towards the back of the classroom where two boys sat, wearing all black and talking amongst themselves. "O-okay."

We moved towards the back slowly, Scarlet and I choosing the two seats in front of the boys. We have each other glances as the two boys stopped their talking right when we sat down.

"Hello." A voice said from behind me which made me jump. Laughter erupted from behind me and Scarlet even giggled a little. I turned around and was met by one of the boys. He had medium length black hair and a black bandana wrapped around his head. "I'm CC." He breathed out, still trying to catch his breath from laughing so hard, while also holding out his hand for me to shake.

"First of all, holy shit don't do that. Second of all, hi CC I'm Shay." I shook his hand and Scarlet was still laughing. The other boy, with shorter black hair, came closer to me.

"And I'm Ashley Purdy." He waved. I waved back and gave a genuine smile.

Scarlet finally spoke up after a while. "I'm Scarlet, by the way. Nice to meet you guys." She smiled and waved from afar. CC and Ashley both waved back and we talked for a little more. What bands we like, favorite color, where we live, how we kill mean people, basic stuff like that.

"Shay Delgado?" Mr. Iero asked my name for attendence. I turned around in my seat from talking to CC and said a quiet 'here'.

"Welcome to class, Shay. Nice lip ring by the way." Mr. Iero smiled. I was shocked for a teacher to be complimenting a lip ring, but as I could see, he had a hole for a lip ring and a nose ring.

"Thanks, Mr. Iero." I said aloud. He just nodded and continued with roll call.

"Scarlet Devlin?" And Scarlet yelled 'here'. Mr. Iero spoke again. "Scarlet, I'm guessing you and Shay are friends?"

"Yup, 3 years." Scar said in a 'matter of a fact' tone.

"Ah, I could tell by the lip rings." He laughed, and then continued with class.
