"Help! Somebody! Please help!" A lady on the side of the road yells and tries to help Mason. "Someone please, call 911!" She keeps yelling for help. "Call an ambulance!"
"What's going on, ma'am?" A man walks over to the lady and Mason.
"Oh! Sir! Please help him. I don't know who he is, but he needs help. Do you have a phone? Can you please call an ambulance?"
"Yes, I have a phone."
"Can you call?"
"Hold on." He walks over to Mason's body. "Mason?" The man takes out his phone and calls an ambulance.
"Mason?" The lady asks. "Do you know this boy?"
"He's my son."
The woman gasps. "I'm so sorry."
"Yeah. Me too." Mason's dad walks off in the opposite direction.
"Hey! Where are you going? Your son needs you!" The lady yells after him. "You're his father!"
"I haven't been acting like one." He replies.
"Well, now you can!"
He quickly turns around. "That may be, but I have done too many wrong things."
"But now you can do something right."
"It still wouldn't change what I have done."
"What have you done? It can't be that bad."
"I killed my brother, Joe."
The woman starts to cry with fear. She was standing alone in the middle of the road with a murderer. Then, sirens of an ambulance fill the empty streets. The lady turns around to see the paramedics rush out of the vehicle to help Mason. She turns back around and finds Mason's dad gone. She holds her chest in relief.
It is 5 in the morning. Graduation is tomorrow. Sophia's funeral is today. I don't have a speech... for either event. I open my eyes. I'm lying in bed, and patched up on my back. I see my dad sitting next to me with my hand in his. My mom is laying with me, my other hand in hers.
"Dad." I call him quietly.
My dad opens his eyes and smiles. "Hey there, apple pie."
"Hi, dad." I smile back.
"Sandra." My dad wakes up my mom. "Julia's awake."
"Huh?" My mom stretches and wakes up. "Oh, my baby." She smiles and kisses my forehead. "You feeling okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. Where's Mason?"
"I don't know. I sent him to get some food, but he never came back."
"Did you try calling him?"
"Yupp, but no answer. It kept going straight to voicemail."
"Hmm... That's strange." I look at the clock. It's 6 in the morning now. "Where could he be?"
My mom shrugs her shoulders. I try to get up. "Woahhh! Hold on there superman." My dad holds me back.
"I need to find Mason."
"With what car? He used your car." My dad asks.
"Can I drive yours?" I smile my best smile and try to look cute.
"Alright, you ugly pup." My dad gives in.
"Yes!" I give him a hug.
My mom laughs. "Be careful!"
