Looking around at how many holes we dug, it wasn't much. We dug five holes, five deep holes.
"Huh ...I'm tired! I quit!"
"No! You can't quit! Please, I really need to find that hole!"
"No!" Tyler drops the shovel and walks towards the door.
"Please! I'll take you some place if you stay and help."
He stopped walking and turned around, "Where is this 'some place'?"
"Wherever you want."
"Hmm ...I don't really know what's good here, but I'll think about it."
"Fine. Now can you please help me?"
The sky had already cleared by the time we got to my house no longer raining. My parents weren't home when we arrived. It has been exactly four hours with us digging at least five foot deep holes five times. It was getting dark for the sun had already set. Tyler walked back to the shovel and grabbed it with a grunt.
"Come on, Tyler. Where are those muscles you showed me?" I laughed humorously while digging a new hole.
He ignores my comment and sticks the shovel into the moist dirt. All five holes were dug around the area I believed John had been.
Finally after two hours, I hear Tyler, "Hey. Is this what you're looking for?"
I drop the shovel and walk towards the parted ground he managed to part. My eyes widen at the sight in the dirt. Holy crap, what was this stuff?
I bent down to get a closer look at the materials piled on top of each other. Without thinking, I jumped in. "Hand me the flashlight." I directed Tyler.
He nods his head and hands it to me. Turning on the flashlight, the dark hole brightens up. I see crumpled pieces of paper, pictures, envelopes, and Mason's phone.
I grabbed one of the envelopes and opened it. Inside were stacks of bills. Like one hundred dollar bills. I opened the other envelopes and they all had bills in them. Grabbing the crumpled pieces of paper, I unfolded it. It was a check for $2 million dollars. My eyes widened as I read the number over and over again just to make sure. There were three crumpled pieces of paper and they were all checks with the same amount. What the heck? Why did Mason's dad have all this money here? How'd he even get it?
"You okay down there?" I look up to see Tyler with a worried face.
"Yeah!" I responded looking back at the jumbled mess in the ground.
There were pictures of me and Mason at restaurants, movie theaters, school, and in front of my house. He had been spying on us, stalking us. But why? And out of all the places to bury it, why in my backyard? What was going on? Confused, I grabbed all the stuff and called Tyler to pull me up. I handed him the things in my hands before he grabbed my hand helping me out of the ground.
"Woah. Look at this stash."
I turn to see Tyler flipping through the envelopes of money. I snatch the envelopes away and everything else. Locking the items safe in my room, I hauled back downstairs. Tyler sat at the island in the kitchen fiddling with his fingers.
"So, where to?"
He looked up with a smirk on his face. He held up my phone, "I want to go there."
I grabbed my phone from his hand and looked at the screen. It was a text message from my best friend, Cindy.
Cindy: Yay! I heard you're back in town! Party at my house 9:30. See ya! Miss ya!
Me: Yup. Of course. Miss you too! :)
