  Ben’s PoV

I woke up. No kidding, I actually woke up. A spark of excitement started inside of me as I started to open my eyes, but it was quickly burned out when I saw that I wasn’t at my house, and I wasn’t at the hospital. I was in a weird place. I don’t know how to describe it. It was creepy, for sure. But there was no one there.

This place, this world was crazy. I was basically all black and depressing. I stood up. I looked down and saw that I was lying on a pile of broken stuff. There was a doll with no head, a black and broken wooden doorframe, a bottle of shampoo and a bunch of other stuff. Everything was so dusty, and it was almost as if everything had turned black from the dust.

I looked around, really looked around. There were buildings far away, but I couldn’t make them out too well. There were piles and piles and piles of rubbish, but dirt roads formed around them. I jumped off of the pile and onto the dusty road, or path.

“Hello?” I called. My voice was strong. I was surprised, glad actually. “Hellohellohellohellohellohellohellooooo?”I called out to the place. There were no echoes, nothing. I scuffed my shoes along the path. I was wearing socks and sandals. I was also wearing my hospital gown, and it was kind of weird. I wanted my regular clothes, not this weird gown they always made me wear.

Wait a minute, if I was alive, had my hair...? I reached up to my head, but was disappointed. My head was bald. I hated it when I lost my hair, but Auntie Marie told me that it would help me fight cancer. So I tried my best not to cry when it all fell out.

I walked along some more. I started to run for a while. It felt so good to actually MOVE, and I didn’t feel sick and tired like I usually did. Whatever this place was, I loved it!

Suddenly, I heard marching. I stopped cold, and listened hard. It was marching alright, but it was far away. I galloped over to where I thought I had heard it, but only found more piles of black stuff. But the marching was nearer, and this time there were instruments! I leaped in the air and went farther. I listened, and then took a right. I stopped cold, and grinned.

There, traveling towards me was a great big float! And there was a marching band, and a fancy lady juggling things. There were wolves too! They were just walking along with their group and a tall guy on stilts was walking beside them. There were a bunch of people marching behind them, playing instruments or just shouting. Some didn’t say anything at all and just walked with signs.

“Watch out!” Some people yelled as I ran in the opposite way that they were. I covered my ears, the noise too much to bear.

“Hey kid, watch it!” Someone yelled at me. I looked up and someone ran into me. They grabbed me by the waist and pulled me to the side of the path.

“Hey!” I yelled back in protest. I looked at the person, and found that it was a man. He didn’t look dead, but he had white hair and was dressed in a black marching band uniform. I stared at him funny.

“What are you looking at?” He gave me a puzzled look. He looked behind him, and then looked back at me. I still stared at him funny, and he smiled at me.

“What’s your name?” I asked him. He shook his head.

“Here, names aren’t important.” He stood up and took my hand.

“What’s this place called?”

“I told you, names weren’t important.”He started dragging me towards the float.

“What am I doing here?” I looked around.

“Jesus kid! Are we playing twenty-one questions or something?” He stopped, sat down and looked into my eyes. I stared back. He had hazel eyes, just like Auntie Marie.
