I hadn't talked to Zayne since I left his house, not because I didn't want to though. In fact it took everything I had not to press the 'call' button next to his name. I even had Redding hide my phone from me to keep me from doing something stupid, which he did happily. I have every intention on winning this bet even if that means playing the “indifference” card.

Hell, I don’t even remember how this all started in the first place. I had every intention of going over there and kicking the door down and hog-tying his ass out of his room if I had to, but then he goes and flips the script on me throwing me all out of whack. I think it’s practically unheard of for a mate to physically deny the other one; then again I’m pretty sure a mating like ours is unheard of too.

Either way he's my MATE, for goddess' sake! I'll hold onto him with my bare teeth if I have to. I’ll go through hell and back, battle demons and slay rivals in order to keep him by my side. But does he see my dedication?

Nooooope.

Instead he wants to play games with my patience and out us as a couple. Can’t we just enjoy each other right now? Why does he have to make everything so complicated? And that’s exactly what this is -complicated. He is in serious need of a spanking and I just might indulge myself after this is all said and done.

"Luuuke....Luke!"

I blink a few times before focusing my attention on my impatient little sister, Erika, who looks like she's been calling me for quite sometime.

Ever since the attack and near-death experience with the Rogues, I’ve been thinking up ways to better protect the pack and to better integrate both sides of the Alliance together; a way kill two birds with one stone. I called an impromptu meeting for tonight so we could have our first real gathering together and talk about some issues, i.e. the fact that vamps and weres rather kick the dead “we used to enemies” horse instead of burying the damn thing. I offered to take the twins to the meeting since we were already dressed, while my appreciative Mom worked on getting Redding  and Dad ready. I swear that women insists on managing everyone.

"Dude, where's your head at right now? I've been calling your name for like an hour!" She explains, flailing her arms arounds.

I look back at her through the rear view mirror and roll my eyes at her obvious exaggeration. "Whatever." Now that I'm paying attention, I notice that Jayme beside her is being really quiet.

"Jayme, what's wrong with you?"

Her only response is a shrug. Wierd.

I send an accusing glare at Erika, who holds up her hands in surrender and says, "Don't look at me! She's been like this since lunch."

It doesn't smell like a lie so I drop it...for now. It must be some “special female” problems that my mom’s always harping about. PMS or some shit like that. Outside of my mom and sisters, I know close to nothing about women. Sure, I dated a few girls since middle school and I even slept with a few No-Strings-Attached girls when I entered high school but we weren’t close. All my time and energy was spent focusing on the Rogues.

I turn up the radio as we continue driving, keeping a wary eye on Jayme and rolling my eyes at Erika’s monkey-faces. At the next red light, Erika unbuckles her seatbelt and climbs from the back seat to the passenger seat with cat-like reflexes and cheetah-like quickness. She buckles up and settles into the seat studying her nails like nothing happened, all before I can pull off once the light turns green.

"Seriously?" I quirk an eyebrow at her, not even trying to hide my amusement.

"Yeah, that just happened," she smiles up at me and I pinch her nose.
