Ellen’s eyes snapped open. She was still on the sofa, in Kian’s strong arms. She had her nightmare again, the flames were rushing towards her, and she was sweating. She carefully stood up, making sure not to wake Kian, and slipped into the kitchen. She drank glass after glass of water, and the consequence was that she needed to go to the toilet. She crept upstairs, and when she came out of the room, she walked into Koa’s bedroom. Toys were neatly in their rightful place, and the bed was made. Ellen sat on the corner of the bed and looked around the room in the dark. The house was so empty without the laughter of the little boy, their little boy. Ellen couldn’t wait to hold him in her arms; to cuddle and kiss him like there was no tomorrow. Kian would do the same as Koa had been his rock through the tough times with Jodi. Ellen heard the door creak open and looked up. Kian was standing there, and came over and sat next to Ellen on the bed.

 “What’s wrong?”

“I had a bad dream” Ellen seemed distant from reality to Kian, so he hugged her and softly spoke to her.

“Are you okay?”

“I don’t know, I used to have the dream before I met you, before I fell in love with you and Koa, I haven’t had it for so long, it’s a bit of a shock, that’s all”

“What happens in the dream?”

“I am at the diner, lying on the floor, like I was when you saved me, and you are there, but I can’t tell it’s you, and the flames roar up and engulf us, and then I wake up sweating, but feeling ice cold”

“Does anything else happen whilst you are awake?”

“Sometimes I am sick, but that is it”

“Have you been to the doctor?”

“No, I didn’t want to waste their time”

“You need to see them”

“I can’t bring myself to go, I haven’t got a doctor here anyway”

“Well we will get you one, and we will get this sorted, together”

“Okay, sounds like a good plan”

“Are you going to come to bed?”

“Yeah, I am really tired” Kian took Ellen’s hand and escorted her to bed. They fell asleep almost instantly.

The next morning Ellen was woken by the smell of fresh toast and tea. Kian walked through the bedroom door with a tray in his hands. Ellen sat up and Kian placed the tray on her lap. He climbed back under the covers and picked up a slice of toast from the rack. Ellen took some toast also, and drank some of her tea. It was apparent that Ellen had drank out of the correct mug as hers had Westlife on it, and Kian’s had a picture of the three of them, one of the photos taken  in the park. They cuddled for a bit, before showering and dressing. Kian had to go and collect Koa soon after they had finished getting ready, and Ellen offered to come with him. They drove the Ferrari down to Shane’s and the guys spoke for a while whilst Ellen and Gillian collected all of Koa’s things. The little boy was a bundle of energy, and snuggled into his parents’ arms as they picked him up on their arrival.

Kian and Shane looked serious, so Ellen and Gillian had a conversation of their own. They spoke about shopping, clothes, the sleepover, and of course, their husbands. Ellen felt weird calling Kian her husband, it only seemed like yesterday that they were talking at the concert. Gillian told Ellen that Shane was thinking of starting a solo career, and Ellen told Gillian that Kian was considering becoming a TV presenter. The conversation lasted a little while, until Kian and Shane came in with goofy smiles on their faces.

“What are you two smiling at?” Gillian laughed nervously, and her eyes darted around the room.

“Nothing” Shane answered, before the pair started laughing.

“Kian, if you want to get out of this house alive, you will tell us what you are laughing at”

“No thank you, Shane will protect me”

“Please tell us”

“No” They answered simultaneously, and both women knew what they had to do. They walked over to their husbands and kissed them gently on the lips. Both men gave the same reaction, they wanted more. The girls pulled away and raised their eyebrows.

“I can’t get a kiss like that and not tell her”

“Neither can I, just tell them Kian”

“We are planning something, BIG”

“What are you planning?” Ellen questioned first, and Gillian looked intently for her husband’s response.

“Well, let’s just say that it affects our old secondary school” Shane wasn’t giving too much information away.

“Why?” Gillian didn’t sound too enthusiastic, and Shane could sense it in her voice

“We are going to hold a fundraising event, you see the school is falling down, and they are going to need money to rebuild it, so we thought that we would put our spare time to good use”

“What are you planning exactly, and can I help?” Ellen sounded happy, proud of the lads’ idea.

“Of course love, we want you to make the signs, with your artistic talent and we were wondering if you could perform at the fair that we will be hosting” The women looked at each other, and Gillian whispered something in Ellen’s ear, suddenly, they both turned to the men and smiled sweetly.

“We will both help, with one condition”

“What is it?” They looked nervous, and the girls laughed at them.

“We will help if Westlife sing as well as me”

“But we aren’t together anymore”

“But think of the fans that would help raise money for your school if you gave them one last performance” they considered their options, and realised that they weren’t going to win.

“I’ll call Mark and Nicky, but I can’t make any promises” The girls clapped their hands, and agreed to keep in touch over the phone. Kian and Ellen took Koa home, after saying their goodbyes to Shane, Gillian, Shane Jr, Nicole and Patrick.

Kian drove them home, and Ellen set to work sorting out the arrangements for the fair. Kian was glad that Ellen was taking such an interest, and was glad that she approved of their idea. They settled Koa down by sitting him in front of the TV, he was a little hyper, and they had to calm him down. It was his first sleep over, and he wanted to go again, you could tell from the fact that he was bobbing up and down in the car, willing to be taken back to play with his friends.

Within a week, the plans for the fair had been set in place. The fair was tomorrow, and everyone was excited. Ellen had been rehearsing, by singing to Koa and Kian, and they clapped repeatedly, giving her the confidence she needed. The posters were up all over Sligo, and the streets were buzzing. The fair would be held in the field of the school, which was large enough to house all of the people attending. On the day of the fair, they left in the morning to set up the tables, chairs, and most importantly the makeshift stage at the school.

Koa joined in with helping, he sat on a chair playing with some of the decorations, whilst Kian and Ellen put up a large sign welcoming people to the fair. They had a break and sat looking at the masterpiece that they had created. The others were there as well, putting out chairs and tables, but Nicky and Mark hadn’t turned up, which made Ellen wonder whether they would be there at all. Shane said that he was going to call them, but maybe they didn’t want to do one last small concert.

The fair started, and there were loads of people. There was an entrance fee, which counted as the donation to the school, but there were trays where you could make an extra donation if you wanted to. Shane and Kian climbed up on stage and welcomed everyone, and kicked off by announcing that Ellen would be singing on the stage shortly. Sure enough, Ellen was called to the stage, where she handed Koa to Kian, and nervously stood to look out at all of the faces glaring up at her. She looked at Kian, who had cued the band to start playing, which encouraged Ellen to sing. The song was ‘Swear it Again’, Westlife’s first number 1 single. The song came and went, and so did the day.

Ellen had lost all hope that Westlife would perform one last time, so her happiness seemed to drift away. That was until Kian and Shane took to the stage. They thanked everyone for attending, and stood in their places. Kian pulled out a microphone from his back pocket, and the pair started to sing ‘Uptown Girl’, with Gillian and Ellen cheering them on. Then, suddenly, two familiar voices joined in from behind. Nicky and Mark made their way through the crowd and stood on stage next to Kian and Shane, and the crowd went wild. They screamed and cried as Westlife sung one last time.

At the end of the day, once everybody had finished packing away, they announced that they had risen over £7000 for the school, which was astounding for such a small village. Everyone went home, tired and exhausted. Kian carried a sleeping Koa in his arms and put him in his warm bed, where he wanted to go to as well. Ellen was already asleep when he walked into their bedroom, but he kissed her all the same. He hoped and prayed that she didn’t have another nightmare, he had made her an appointment with the doctor the next day, but she didn’t know, and he didn’t know whether she would willingly go.
