Chapter 38

Ellen was now big enough to burst. She couldn’t walk very far, her feet ached and she always felt tired. Kian was busy with his work, so he couldn’t stay at home all day to look after her. Kian was hosting a show called Surprise, Surprise, and Ellen couldn’t be happier for him, but she couldn’t express it because she always felt ill and tired. Ellen was almost near her due date, so was taking things easier and easier. She occasionally turned up for work, did a bit of sewing until her bosses found her and sent her home again. She was so bored. Koa was at school so he couldn’t have fun with her, and Kian was always busy with work, so she phoned up Gillian and Georgina and they agreed to come over for a couple of hours.

When they turned up, they brought with them loads of bags, and Ellen looked so confused. They led her into the living room sat her down, and Gillian went away and came back with three cups of tea/coffee. Ellen was still confused so they decided to show her what was in the bags. There were loads of pink baby clothes and toys and things. Ellen’s jaw dropped to the floor.

“Kian kinda let slip to the guys that you were having a girl” Gillian said as she handed Ellen her tea.

“I knew he couldn’t resist telling someone”

“Make that four people. He told Nicky, Mark, Shane and his Mum, and they didn’t know it was a secret, so they told us” Georgina spoke this time after a long silence.

“Oh well it wasn’t really a secret, how could it be with Kian’s big gob”

“True, when are you due?” Georgina spoke again

“Next Wednesday, I’m scared”

“Don’t be, it may hurt, but you will be so grateful in the end”

“I know, I can’t wait”

“have you got any names planned?”

“I don’t know about Kian, but I like Abby, Lily, Robin and Gennie”

“So you’ve narrowed it down” Gillian laughed

“Yeah, kinda, I don’t know what Kian wants to name her, knowing him it will be eccentric”

“But that is Kian to a T”

“I know,  I love him for that”

They rummaged through the stuff that everyone had bought for Ellen and Kian’s baby and found some lovely stuff, who knew that Nicky, Shane and Mark had so much style. They heard the door close and Koa came running through the door and hugged his Mum, then Gillian and Georgina grabbed him in a hug and kissed him, he loved the attention. Kian came in shortly afterwards and said hi to the girls before kissing Ellen’s lips so passionately that when Nicky and Shane came to pick the girls up they kissed them like they hadn’t done since they were teenagers, and the boys loved it. Kian and Ellen actually had to break them up because they were afraid they would want to take it a step further in their hallway. They left after a cup of tea/coffee and it was just the three of them again, but not for much longer.

A week passed and Wednesday was here. Ellen and Kian were one edge; in fact they had prepared themselves. Kian’s Mum would pick Koa up from school, just in case. They had her overnight bag packed, a clear path to the car from wherever they were, their mobiles charged, and they were constantly wearing shoes wherever they went, and Kian even took the day off. But as the day grew shorter, Ellen was losing hope that she would give birth that day that was until she felt a kick. She gasped, and Kian began to move quickly.

“Kian, calm down, it was just a kick”

“Are you sure?”

“Yeah, now sit down; we need to talk”
