I was 100% right. He came up to me at school the next day with his mates. Yesterday was a lesson well learnt I definitely need to leave my skateboard at home. No one can be trusted, and I thought it was all over. Honestly I was so far from wrong. I though it was to get back at me cause he didn't do "well enough" to humiliate me yesterday, even though I was nice after he was an asshole, and he wanted to "impress" his new mates. He came over to where I was standing in my corner of the locker room, minding my own business, listening to one of my favourite Aussie tracks, "Jump the Gun" by Hockey Dad. The crew followed him, like a bunch of sheep in a heard that have lost their Kelpie. I didn't know what I was in for and the area we were in the teachers didn't monitor at all. Kids walked by and turned a blind eye, trying to be oblivious cause of course no one wanted to mess with them, get in between the boys with the issues. Mess with the skaters, you get haters. It was a thing. His mates formed a semi circle around us laughing and whispering like little school girls. Pathetic in my opinion,
"Go on. Grab her phone!" Blake says. With out a chance to react my hand is empty. I grab his hand and fight with him to get it out. The asshole wins. My new iPhone I hadn't had very long. What's with him and trying to get my shiny new toys. I'm back in kindergarten again! "You're a dickhead Evan, give it back to me!" I say in the angriest I've ever heard myself,
"No way Jade. I'm just not letting you have it." He just pulls away his hand and holds me against the wall with his body. Yes it's wonderful cause it's honestly so perfectly fit and athletic but I'm struggling here! I try to whack at his arms but he doesn't even flinch. He scroll's through and touches the screen doing who knows what. I struggle more, and start making noises and start to hyperventilate. He notices and let's go and I slide down the wall and just sit there giving up. If he's gonna play games he can win this one. He follows me down and falls to the ground sitting down,
"You guys can go," he says waving them off not even looking back, just intrigued by my phone. They turn and walk away with their boards a little confused I think, talking amongst themselves. He locks my phone and I grab it off him and stand up and before I can walk away he grabs the sleeve of my jumper,
"Jade wait, please. I'm sorry okay? I didn't want to do this and I know I've been a total asshole, but hear me out. How would you feel just getting out of here for the day? We can hang out together, get to know each other even. Be a bit rebellious, break the rules. Just a day, get to know me. I'll make it up to you for being an idiot," he says. My mind starts to spin and I don't know what to say. This boy is gorgeous but a bit of a juvenile. I've skipped class before, but I can't. Not today, right before exams. Luckily I've never been caught while leaving, well nearly. I look up at him and look into his beautiful blue eyes and sorta get lost,
"Okay, but it's class time and I have to study? If I don't get the right ATAR I need I'll be stuffed for getting into university" I stammer,
"We can still get out for sure. You'll have plenty more time to study as well." He says with a cheeky grin, eyes darkened and then winks at me. My face feels hotter than the suns surface, and probably looks it too. That's pretty warm.
He leads me towards the big double doors to the outside and then we see a teacher,
"Oi! Get into class you two!" She yells. Then Evan starts to run. I pause my mind running a million miles an hour not knowing what to do so I bolt with him. The fitness kids are doing their morning exercises on the basketball court. I like to call them the steroid upped gym junkies,
"Okay, when we're out of the school turn left and grab a board out of the first bush," he says, "Okay we have to sprint across the fence line of the driveway out, so they can't get us." He's really thought this through, or he's done it plenty of times. He starts walking faster with me behind,
"Hey! Why aren't you two in class?!" The fitness teacher yells. I look at the familiar faces, especially the girls. They start to whisper to each other and look my way. The sluts, the fakes and the cakes all together, the no ones, and the people who don't even know what they're doing. There are a few of them who look like they have hit steroids already but I don't accurately know. They're the kids who play it like the Olympics. It starts to rain a little and the cakes cover themselves with whatever they can find. I give one of the girls I know in the "popular" group a look as to say, 'we're trying to get out!' While rolling my head and eyes towards the drive. She starts to breathe heavy and I know she is pulling an act. She falls to the ground as if she's passing out. We take this as an advantage and run out to the end gate,
"Hey! Stop them. Whoever doesn't get them has to do three extra laps this morning!" The teacher yells. We have a whole stampede of kids running after us. We spare no time running either and out the gates we go into freedom. Evan pulls me left and we both grab a board that just happened to be there and hide in the bushes until we know its clear.
