I decided to continue anyway

The next day was a cloudy one and the weather man promised rain but that shouldn't be an issue. I went to the kitchen to find Sam making waffles his muscles flexing under his dark skin his brown eyes intent on his task.

"Good morning."

He looked up " 'morn, what's on the agenda today?"

"Board up the bottom windows leaving about one foot of space at the top for light."

"That's it?"

"I think I might stop by the pet store and get some cats, you know to get the rodents under control." I took a plate and started eating it with just butter and fruit

"How do you know they will mouse?" He sat with his plate

"Any cat if it's hungry enough will mouse, or I could go to the pound I'm sure there are some there."

He checked his watch "it's almost six, let's go."

I watched Lauren as she drove then an idea hit me "What do you think of wood burning stoves?"

She didn't even glance at me "Where are you going with this."

"They don't need power to get hot just some wood, and they are multi purpose."

"Do you know how to get one?"

"Yes." I nodded once " I even know how to instal it."

"Well then, hop too I'm going to see what kind of supplies I can get, I might even see about getting beds or something like that."

We pulled to a stop at the old hospital to find the crew waiting for us at the gate. "Alright so let's get it done." I got out and let them in while she pulled off

Wood burning stove? I laughed softly to myself it better work but who was I to judge I was preparing for a zombie apocalypse that might not happen. I got out at the pound and stepped inside the smell of animals hitting me hard but I shook it off as I walked up to the counter. And rang the bell while I waited I browsed through the brochures on the counter until an older woman stepped up to me.

"We are barley even open, how can I help you?"

I smiled sweetly at her "I'm looking for some cats that were rescued from farms or the owners dropped them off here."

"Right this way." She led me to a large room full of cats some sleeping some up meowing loudly "we have male female neutered spayed and some with their gentiles still intact as well as young and old."

"I would prefer cats that weren't spayed or neutered male and female, I have quite a large barn with a rat problem and I figure the best way was to get some cats."

"Alright, so let's see do you want people friendly?"

"Yes."

She walked to a section on the wall of cages and stoped in front of a huge black cat with one green eye and one blue "this one is lacy and she is two years old she comes from a large litter of cats that were used for fighting then she lived on a farm she has been returned more than once because the family's can't afford her." She handed me the cat who purred and licked me.

"She is lovely what else do you have?"

After letting me look at and hold twenty other cats both male and female I settled on ten seven female and three male one of the females was pregnant and had just been rescued from a house fire and the owners didn't want her. After putting them in a cage I had brought with me I took them back to the hospital and unloaded them.
