"How'd you cut your forehead?" Lysander asked when Addison sat on the chair next to his bed.

"I hit my head." Lysander raised an eyebrow in question. Addison sighed.

"You never give up, do you?"

"Never."

"Fine. It happened when the ancient one dropped me here."

"And when was this?"

"About half an hour ago." Lysander laughed slightly, then cringed and grabbed his chest.

"And that's why you should take better care of yourself."

"Your heads bleeding again." He said, causing Addison to grab a cloth and dab her head again.

"Let me." Lysander said, moving her hand away and placing his palm flat against the cut. Addison's forehead started tingling, then Lysander pulled his hand away.

"Done." He said, and Addison felt her forehead. There was barely even a scar. Addison grabbed a knife and cut off his shirt and bandage, leaving his stab wound exposed.

"What are you gonna do?"

"Hopefully, exactly what you did."

"I take it you didn't become a sorceress then?"

"No." Lysander shrugged slightly.

"I'm sure the Valkyries will be glad to have you."

"I'm not a Valkyrie either. I'm a Paladin." Lysander's eyebrows rose slightly.

"Just like me and Marciano."

"Yes, just like you and Marc. Please try not to move. I'm going to clean the wound first." Addison poured saline over the wound, making Lysander wince. She wiped away the blood as gently as she could before placing her hand on the wound. She felt her fingertips tingle and the wound beneath her hand started to shrink.

"It's working." Addison said in disbelief. She removed her hand and looked at the spot the would had once been. The only indicator that he had ever been stabbed was the thin pink line on his otherwise unmarked skin.

"As good as new." Addison said with a wide smile.

"I never doubted you."

"I think we both know that's not true." Addison said as she wiped away the rest of the blood. Lysander just shrugged and sat up.

"Only for a second. That barely counts." Addison threw a clean shirt at him.

"Alright then. We should probably get you something to eat anyway." Addison led Lysander into the kitchen and grabbed then each some bread and butter.

"So how'd it happen?" She asked him after a while.

"Your brother and I were scouting the area around your family's castle when we were attacked by wraiths."

"What were you doing by the castle?"

"We were looking for you."

"Why would I have been at the castle?"

"You haven't heard the news then."

"What news?"

"The wraiths captured the villagers that were escaping the castle. Most of them were killed, but they're holding some hostage."

"And he thought I might be there."

"Yea." They sat in silence for a few moments.

"What about Tracee?" Addison asked

"She wasn't with any of the other people there. There were no children anywhere." Addison felt a silent tear run down her cheek. Tracee had been a little girl, only 8 years old.

"I should never have gone back. This is all my fault." Lysander wrapped his arms around her in an attempt to comfort her.

"You can't blame yourself for what happened. The wraiths are monsters." Addison blinked away the tears forming in her eyes. She was not going to break down in front of Lysander.

"Addison are you in the kitchen?" Rhonda called from the basement.

"Yea." She called back, pulling free from Lysander's grip. Rhonda ran up the basement stairs and flew through the door.

"I've just heard some terrible news. There's going to be a public execution at Silas's castle tomorrow."

"Who is it?"

"There's no names, but an elf that was in the company of two riders is being executed while the riders are each receiving 15 lashes for conspiring against the crown."

"They can't kill Jurriaan!" Addison exclaimed.

"We have to do something!" She shouted, turning to Lysander for help.

"You're a Paladin. We could make up some story about them being wanted by the dragon lords then take them from the castle."

"Addison, we're both Paladins, and I can't do that. My job is to go back to the outskirts."

"Please Lysander. We have to help them."

"I can't."

"Lysander, if we don't do something, Nyx will be lashed. Your sister will be lashed."

"I can't Addison, okay? I want to, but..."

"The castle is on the way to the Outskirts. We can stop there, save them and be on our way."

"There is nothing you can say to convince me Addison. We are not going to help them. We can't save everyone." Addison smiled slightly.

"But we need to see them. Fane is with them. We can't go to the Outskirts without my dragon." Lysander slammed his fist down on the table.

"You're just like your brother y'know? Always getting your way."

"So we're going to help them?"

"Yes. We will help them."

"There's one other thing, Addison." Rhonda said. She let out a short, sharp whistle and a phoenix flew into the room with a green woven bag in it's claws.

"She arrived when you were helping him." She said, gesturing to Lysander.

"Rosella?" The bird squawked happily and dropped the bag before flying to her. The bag dropped with a metallic crash.

"It's good to see you." Addison ran her hand over the birds feathers.

"What's in the bag?" Lysander picked the bag up off the ground and looked inside.

"It's your armour. And dress wear." Addison rushed to grab the bag.

"It's gold." She whispered, looking at Lysander.

"I can see that."

"That means I'm second in command."

"Along side me." He said with a smile.

"You two should go get changed. You have a journey ahead of you." Rhonda said before retreating into her basement again.
