Something So Ridiculous

The door opened behind the two thrones that stood high in the centre of the room.

"What do you think they're really doing your Majesty?" One of the hand maids asked.

"It's the girl, isn't it your Majesty. Do you think she's trying to save them?" Asked another.

"Well, I don't think you should do what they want your Majesty." Said a third.

"And why is that?" The queen said, speaking for the first time since Addison had opened the door.

"It's the girl Paladin your Majesty. Who's ever heard of something so ridiculous?"

"Your absolutely right. We must apprehend them at once, but they mustn't know we are coming for them. It will give them time to prepare." Addison bit her lip nervously.

"Rosella, I need you to grab that bag on the table then fly out that window and into the forest with it. You can't let anyone see it. I'll find you when I can, okay?" Addison whispered. Rosella nodded in reply and flew quickly into the room. Addison closed the door and ran back down the tunnel. Addison didn't stop running until she came to the stairs leading down to the dungeon, where Lysander was waiting.

"There's someone down there that wants to speak with you."

"You mean a guard?"

"I mean one of the prisoners. He requested to speak with you, rather rudely, might I add." Addison frowned.

"That's... weird, but there's something more important going on. The queen-" Addison was cut off by shouts coming from down the hall.

"We need to move. The queen sent them to capture us." Addison said quickly.

"Then we must run. There is no hope for your friends."

"I can't leave Fane." She said before pushing past him and running back down the stairs. Lysander looked from the window down the hall, then back at the staircase. He stood there for a moment before running after Addison, despite his instincts telling him to run.

Addison knocked the guards out before grabbing the huge metal door and swinging it closed.

"Addison, wait!" Lysander called just before the door slammed shut. Addison sighed and pulled the door open. Lysander slipped through and smiled.

"Well, if we're going to make our stand in here, we should make it worthwhile." Addison rolled her eyes and pushed the table in front of the door.

"We should barricade the door and escape a different way." Addison said as she pushed the last of the chairs in front of the door.

"How?"

"We can make a tunnel." She said, then grabbed the keys from the hook on the wall.

"May I have your attention please." The eyes of the prisoners fell on Addison.

"Me and my companion have been chased down here by the queens royal guard. They want to apprehend us, to use the queens words. I would like the help of anyone that is willing."

"Why would we help someone like you?" A prisoner yelled. Addison turned to see a young man with grass green eyes and curly brown hair staring at her.

"What's your name?"

"Rye."

"Your a Dryad, aren't you?"

"Yea, what's your point?"

"Nothing. If any of you help us, we will grant you your freedom. Many of you have been wronged by the queen, but I will try to make things right." The prisoners roared with smiles on their faces. Addison walked down the row of cells, opening each one as she passed. Lysander armed each one of the men and women as they left their cells. The group gathered at the far end of the corridor, weapons in hand, their gazes fixed on Addison.

"We're going to make a tunnel into the forest, so I need any witches or wizards to come forward and help." Lysander and 3 others stepped forward, and together the five of them moved the dirt aside until the tunnel was long enough for them to escape into the forest. The prisoner poured into the tunnel, hurrying to their freedom, until just Addison and a few others remained.

"I wish to join you cause, my lady." Addison turned to see Rye kneeling on the ground behind her.

"Your welcome to come Rye, but the bowing isn't necessary. " Rye stood.

"What ever you say your highness."

"It's just Addison. Please don't call me your highness." Rye shrugged and looked around.

"Where are your friends?"

"They went ahead. Someone needs to hold the guards off, and I'm more than capable."

"As am I." Said the man standing in the mouth tunnel.

"I though me and Blair could help." Addison's eyes widened, then she ran to hug the man.

"What are you doing here? I thought you were with Paxton."

"I was arrested. It's nothing." Jurriaan emerged from down the corridor with Myra, Fane and Talon behind him.

"Addison, we need to go." He asked. The man and Addison exchanged glances.

"As much as I love a good fight Addison, your friend has a point. Maybe another time." Addison nodded and the few remaining in the cell block took off down the tunnel.

"Who are you?" Jurriaan asked the man.

"Jurriaan, that's my brother." Addison replied before taking off with the man, leaving Rye and Jurriaan struggling to catch them.
