James Reid

"Where's my jac- oh! I'm winning! You guys should just stop playing. You'll never win, you know." I half-yelled as my character in Tekken hit Mark's. Another day in the life of the great James Reid-- my life, and it's not just another day. Nothing's just another day. There's the pool and the video games and the vodka and of course, my friends everyday. How's that even boring? I mean, there's Mark talking about monkeys who do good in kungfu and there's Jen and Chet making out in the kitchen. And then there's Steph, walking over to me.

"Hi, babe." She said, kissing my neck.

"Hey."

"Why so tense? C'mon, loosen up." Her mouth met mine and before I could stop it, we were already kissing intimately. I tried to break the kiss but she won't let me do it. Instead, she locked her arms around my neck and the next thing I knew, we were already lying on the couch with her on top of me.

"Get a room, you two!" Mark shouted from across the room. I pushed Steph away from me, gently, of course and kissed her cheek.

"I don't plan on getting anyone pregnant, by the way." And I went to the kitchen to get myself a glass of water.

Steph was never my girlfriend. We just feel really comfortable around each other that making out was the least intimate thing we could do. I've had past relationships with girls I like before, tho. But they weren't really that strong, it was just infatuation, nothing else. For some reason I didn't know, I don't believe in love. It's something fools choose to believe in, something that isn't really a thing. Well, I used to believe in love and in enchantment. But that was before my mum left us. Dad said I should try to forgive her because everything she did was all because of her love for us, something I would never in a million years understand. If she loved us, why would she leave? It's bullshit, really. She chose her life over us, there is nothing the universe could do about that. All that's left for me to do is to go on with my life and to someday choose it over my mum. No, over that woman. She's not my mum anymore. I don't want her to be my mum anymore.

"James! C'mere bro!" I snapped out of my thoughts when Chet called my name. I went to join them in the living room.

"Yeah?" I said as I seated myself on the couch opposite their's.

"You wanna go somewhere exciting this summer?" Chet said with an unusually excited voice that almost sounded like a woman's.

"Yeah, sounds cool."

"Cool? C'mon, bro, it's the only awesome idea I've had in decades." "Yeah, yeah. I'm in."

"Now that's my pretty baby boy." He said, touching my face with his. "Jesus! Get off me!" I pushed him away a little too hard.

"Calm down, pretty boy. I'm just messing with ya. So what do you say, Friday, we'll leave, hmm?"

"Yeah, okay. Cool." Sounds like I've got myself some plans this summer. Ha.
