Nadine Lustre

There are at least two kinds of people: 1. the fortunate; 2. the unfortunate. It's been an hour since last period English II started and a minute and a half since I decided that I fall under 'the unfortunate'. And probably 10 seconds since I last let out a sigh.

"Ano ba, Nadine, pang-ilang buntong-hininga mo na ba 'yan?" Lexie, a girl from my class said, pointing out the unusual number of times I let out a sigh.

"Ah, wala. May iniisip lang. Wag mo akong pansinin."

"Okay. Sabi mo, e. Any summer plans?" She said, with the unwanted aura of happiness surrounding her excited face.

"I don't know. Haven't thought about it, tho."

"Sama ka nalang sa amin, pupunta kami sa resort ng uncle ko kasama ang ilang kaklase natin."

"I'll think about it." And luckily, it shut her up and she went back to doing whatever she was supposed to be doing.

The truth is, I haven't really thought about anything lately but just how this summer's gonna be just like all the other summers I've had. Boring as hell, that is. I considered my options:

1. I could call my friends and throw a party at my house every weekend. Pros: wonderful social life. Cons: I don't have a sim card, or any friends. 2. I could ask my mum to buy me a box of pizza. Pros: oodles. Cons: my mum barely even comes home.

3. I could go pet my dog. Pros: oodles. Cons: I don't have a dog.

I packed my things and headed home. My home's just a couple of blocks away from my school, it's not really that far. I could just walk my way home, tho, but I like riding the bike, so yeah, I rode the bike home.

"Yaya, andito na po ako."

"Oh, ma'am Nadine", Yaya Marie said, reaching for my bag. "Wala pa po sina sir at ma'am, e."

"Ako na po. Sa taas lang po ako, ah?"

"Oh, sige po, ma'am." I smiled at her and went upstairs to my bedroom.

I've always wondered how it's possible for people like Yaya Marie-- loyal, truthful and very kind to still exist in a world like ours. It's like she's an exception. A very rare exception. I've decided that Yaya Marie is the only person in the world who genuinely cares for me, well, besides my dad, tho. I'm just an 18-year-old who hates almost everything in general. I'm the kind who hates talking to people but also has 20k Twitter followers. I hate going out, it feels like a turtle getting out of its shell. It's just very uncomfortable. Books, the piano, the guitar, the violin, my iPad and my headphones are my bestfriends in the world. I talk to myself in front of the mirror and pretend I'm on an interview. I like talking about the color orange and how much I hate the word "panties". I've never had a guy friend. I've never had friends, in general. Well, I have Twitter friends, tho, but they just don't feel so...real. I snapped out of my thoughts and changed. I then sat infront my desktop and started browsing the web. As usual, I logged in my Twitter account.

Aw. The last day of school wasn't that blast-y. Owel, life. I tweeted and then went on following everyone back. A couple RTs. FAVs. And I'm out.

I went downstairs and watched TV. It's just me, Yaya Marie, Aling Rosa (the cook), and Kuya Boboy (the driver) and the house will be dead quiet if not for the noise that comes from the TV. I should be used to it, this is actually what all the summers of my life were like. I kept the TV on for the next 3 hours until it was time for dinner.

"Wala pa po ba sina mum at dad?"

"Ay, ma'am, wala pa po, e. Kumain nalang po muna kayo at baka matatagalan pa po sila."

"Samahan niyo po akong kumain, Yaya."

"Ma'am, gustuhin ko man po ay, e, bawal naman."

"Sige na po. Kung gusto niyo, sabay na po natin sina Aling Rosa at Kuya Boboy." She sighed and looked at Aling Rosa and Kuya Boboy who were standing by the kitchen door.

"Hindi ko naman po sasabihan kay mum, e." I said, trying to convince them.

"Oh, sige na nga. Hali na kayo, kumain na tayo." Yaya Marie said, mostly to Aling Rosa and Kuya Boboy. They seated themselves on the dining table, amazed by just the thought of them eating with me. It was unusually quiet so I spoke up.

"Ang sarap niyo pong magluto, Aling Rosa."

"Talaga po, ma'am?"

"Oo naman po. Busog na busog nga po ako, e." I said, smiling at her. "Salamat po, ma'am, ah? Ang bait bait niyo po pala."

"Oo nga po, ma'am, e. Ngayon pa nga lang ako nakakain sa lamesang 'to." Kuya Boboy, who was wiping his mouth with the napkin, added.

"Ayoko naman po kasing kumain mag-isa. At tsaka, wag niyo na po akong tawaging 'ma'am'." I said, smiling at the three of them.

They all laughed and we talked and ate some more until we were very full. Yaya Marie and Aling Rosa washed the dishes and Kuya Boboy cleaned the table. That was one of the two most amazing dinners in my life, the other one was on my 7th birthday. I watched some more TV and decided to go upstairs when it was almost 11. I waited until 12 in my room for mum and dad to come home. They never came.
