Nadine

Oh. my. gods. Okay, I'm freaking out. Thanks to James and, yeah, just James being James. What should I wear? What would it be like going to the dance with a guy? Should I curl my hair, or straighten it, or whatever shit normal girls do to their hair? This is just one of the many times when I wish I had girl friends who'd help me through this. If I had been nice to the girls at school, I mean, not that I'm not, but if I had been friendlier to them than I was, I wouldn't be facing the stupid mirror right now, scolding myself for not doing otherwise.

I could ask mum?

Yeah.

Yeah, no.

Yeah, I really should ask mum. And stop talking to myself.

I went downstairs to the kitchen. Fortunately, she was just waiting for her cookies to bake.

Yeah, I should do this.

I'm not one for doing this. You know, asking my mum to help me get ready for the dance with James. Holy Kronos and Rhea!

"What is it, sweetheart?" She must've noticed me walking around in circles. Shit.

"James, uh... He asked me to go to the dance with him tonight," I talked real fast because I'm nervous as hell.

"I always knew he was sweet."

"Uh, I don't know what to wear?" I said nervously.

Mum stopped whatever it is that she was doing and looked at me. Like she just saw me for the first time. I could almost see her tears.

"Oh, honey. This has always been my dream. You know, I wanted to be the one making sure my baby girl looks her finest in her prom dress, but I never had the chance to do that," she said, obviously trying to stop her tears.

I chuckled and hugged her.

"It's okay, mum. I could really use your help right now."

And with that, we went upstairs to my room to get ready. Screw that girl friends part I said earlier, I wouldn't want anyone else to do this with me. Just my mum.

James

Tux. No, not tux. Hmm, dress shirt?

Yeah, dress shirt.

Gods. I'm talking to myself.

I changed to my dress shirt and looked at the mirror. Fine.

I combed my hair the way I've always done it. Good.

I hurriedly grabbed my coat and went downstairs.

"Bro, could you- woah, woah. What sorcery is this?" Mark said when he saw me all dressed up.

"I'm taking Nadine to the dance." I said straightly.

"Oh. Okay, lover boy. Don't mess it up," Mark grinned at me. I love that Mark understands me. He truly is my bestfriend. I smiled back at him.

"Who's Nadine?" Steph. Shit. I forgot about her.

"James' girlfriend," Mark said.

"No. Not yet," I corrected. Steph looked so dazed, she almost forgot she's not supposed to look like that. I mean, she doesn't actually like me, yeah? She just likes to hook up with me, right?

"We should meet this girl, James," Steph said. She seemed to have gained her composure back. But I know Steph, she's planning to do something. It's not nice.

"Sure. When she's ready. I gotta go," I said and immediately went out.

I walked nervously to Nadine's place.

Nadine

I looked at the girl in a little black dress in the mirror staring back at me. Her eyes are lined with a black liner and her lashes are further emphasized with the glittered mascara she's applied. Her cheeks are a little plump with tint and mouth perfectly encrusted with the right amount and colour of fresh Chap stick. Her hair curled, cascaded down her shoulders, and topped with a flower crown so out of character to her dark aura.

She's beautiful.

She doesn't look like me.

I looked at my mum and she has a huge smile plastered all over her face. She hugged me.

"Nadine. My baby. You look so stunning," she said.

"Thanks, mum. You know, I have the best personal hair, make-up, and clothes artist- all in one."

"Nothing would make me happier and you know it."

"Thank you, mum," I hugged her again and when I broke free, I heard the front door ring.

"I'll go down first, okay?" Mum said and went downstairs to my dad and probably, James.

"James! You look so handsome, iho," I heard my mum.

"Talaga po, tita? Thanks. Si Nadine?" James. Omg. His voice still gives me chills.

"Tatawagin ko muna, iho, okay?" my mum said.

"Okay po. Hello po, Tito," I heard him say to my dad.

"Nadine! Bumaba kana, baby. Nandito na si James," mum called from downstairs.

Hmm. Okay. It's now or never.

I went downstairs.

My jaw dropped six feet under the damn floor.

James

HOLY MOTHER OF DRAGONS.

Nadine

He's the most beautiful man I've ever laid sight upon.

James

She's the most beautiful girl in the entire universe.

Nadine

I could look at him all day. Wait, I hope I'm not drooling. Gods.

James

I cleared my throat.

"Hi," I said.

"Hi," she replied.

"You look amazing," I said.

"So do you," she smiled.

I smiled back.

"All right, kids. Off with you. Not too late, you two, okay?" Tita said from behind us.

"Yes po, Tita. I'll make sure Nadine goes home safely," I said to her.

"In you I trust, James," she smiled.

Nadine went to her dad and hugged him.

"Enjoy, baby girl," he said after they've hugged.

"I will, dad. Thanks," she said and kissed his cheeks.

She then went to her mum and hugged her.

"Thanks again, mum," she said.

"Be careful, okay?"

"Yeah, mum."

She looked at me and I held her hand. We got out of their place hand in hand.

And to the dance we went.
