James

She's very beautiful. I counted to ten and waited for her to get out of the water and run but she did not. Instead, she looked at me. Again with those eyes of hers, again with those beautiful eyes of hers.

After about a minute of awkward staring and all, I decided to speak up. "Um, hi."

Nadine

"Um, hi," he said. That voice, that same voice. I didn't know what to do. Should I smile? Or say hi? Or just keep staring?

"Uh, please don't run. I won't hurt you, I promise," he said. His voice's just so convincing, like it's telling me to trust him. To believe whatever he says.

"Okay," I said.

James

"Okay," she said. Her voice-- it's too soft, too fragile. Like that of an angel's. Like it's something she barely uses and it's as beautiful as her. "Sino ka? Anong kailangan mo sa'kin?" She said, and I could tell she's scared. I can speak Tagalog but not straight so I still understand her.

"The name's James."

"James?"

"Yeah. James Reid. You are?"

Nadine

Should I tell him? Should I trust him? I don't know him. No, I do, his name's James. But it's not enough. He said he won't hurt me. He said he'd-

"It's okay, you can trust me. I'm not a bad person," he said, bringing me back. It's not too bad to make friends, right? I mean, he doesn't look like an alien. Or a monster. Or a zombie. I've never trusted anyone before, mum said I should never trust anyone immediately. I should first know someone too well before I could give him my trust because God knows where it could get me. She made it sound like it could kill me. It really could kill me. But this time, I decided to risk my life.

James

"Nadine. My name's Nadine," she said and then smiled. Her smile is is very beautiful. It made her look even more beautiful.

"So, Nadine, mind if I join you?"

"Am I supposed to say no? Or yes? I'm sorry, I don't know how it works." She sounded so nervous, so innocent, so honest. It made me wanna protect her even more.

I laughed and said, "No. You should say no."

"Okay. No," she said, looking up at me. I got into the water and smiled at her. She smiled back.

"Nadine?"

"Yeah?"

"What's your full name?"

"Nadine Alexis Lustre"

"Oh. It's nice."

"Thanks. What's your full name?"

"Robert James Reid"

"Reid?" She gasped, "are you some kind of a gay alien who's trying to invade Venus but got here instead?" I laughed. Man, she doesn't know it but she turns me on.

"No, just half-Australian," I said, still laughing.

"Half-Aussie, yeah? Aussies are hot," she said. I stopped laughing and looked at her. She froze and her eyes were really big like it's gonna come out of its sockets. Man, she should've seen her face. It's too cute. I laughed at her.

Nadine

Holy. Mother. Of. Middle. Fingers. I'm stupid. I'm a stupid young lady. What have I done? This is why. This is why I don't have friends. Everyone thinks I'm too weird, I should've been with the gay aliens who were trying to invade Venus but got here instead. No. What am I even talking about? Jesus, help.

"Uh, I, uh-

"You think I'm hot," James said, still laughing.

"No! It's not that. I said Aussies are hot. You're half-Aussie. So you're only half- um, half-hot."

"Touché."

"Like Ferb," I said and regretted it, he might not know what I was talking about. Gods. He laughed. God, even his laugh's hot.

"Alright, alright. It's settled. I'm only half-hot," he said, after he's laughed his heart out.

"Shut up."

"Oh, so you don't think I'm half-hot?"

"Jesus. Will you shut up?"

"Okay, okay. I was just joking."

"I know."

"How old are you?" He said, rubbing his face. His lips are so red. And soft. "Eighteen. You?"

"Same. But I'll be nineteen soon."

"Okay." Did I tell you I'm no good at keeping conversations? Well, I just did.

"So, what brought you here?"

"In this pool? Or this place? I'm sorry, it could mean either, you know." Oh gods, if this is what I get from not going out, I don't think I'll ever stay inside again. He laughed. Again.

"You're so funny, I like you." Okay, what? I looked at him. He looked at me. Silence. It was awkward.

"I meant both," he finally said after what felt like forever.

"Oh. Here, right now, because I couldn't sleep. Here because my parents wanted me to come with them."

"Oh. Okay."

"You? Why are you here?"

"Because I was thinking about you and I couldn't figure out why you ran away the first time we met. And I came with my friends." He-- he was thinking about me, too?

"You were-- what?"

"I was thinking about you."
