I felt Lanie's little hand slip into mine as we heard Steve and Patricia's voices outside, along with two unfamiliar ones. Samuel was looking a bit nervous, standing closer to Jenni and Peter than usual. But then there were Mark, Ryan, and Jaydon. Mark and Ryan were sitting on top of the table, looking calm and unconcerned. Jaydon was leaning up against the wall, his arms folded across his chest. He simply looked bored.
The door slowly opened and I instinctively squeezed Lanie's hand. She grippped my hand just as tightly, glancing up at me with wide blue eyes. Steve and Patricia entered first. It was obvious that Peter and Samuel were their sons. They had inherited Steve's brown eyes and Patricia's blonde hair. Behind them followed a pair of twins, obviously vampires. Lanie's grip on my hand tightened to one of bone-crushing strength. If I were ordinary, the bones probably would have snapped.
The girl spoke first. "I'm Ariana," she said quietly. I noticed that her brow was slightly creased. She was just as nervous as we all were. "This is my twin brother, Bishop."
Jaydon unhitched himself from the wall, stepping forwards. "I'm Jaydon Wells. The black-haired girl over there is my little sister, Jenni." He held out his hand to them, and they actually shook it, their eyes wide. The girl fought to hide any reaction she might have, but the boy wrinkled his nose, apparently not caring what we thought.
Mark, Peter and Ryan quickly introduced themselves. Lanie squeezed my hand again. She wasn't going to tell them her name, I knew that. So I stepped forwards. "My name is Serafina," I said. "This little darling here is Lanie. And Steve and Patricia's other son, Samuel, is right there by Jenni." They nodded in acknowledgement, and I quickly shrank back behind Jaydon, since he had moved to stand beside his sister.
Everyone lapsed into an awkward silence after that. Vampires and werewolves in the same room. Who would have ever thought it? But now what? I didn't know how to act around vampires. I mean, I was used to hating vampires. Yet these two were going to be staying in my home.
