"OH MY GOD!" Jaydon erupted as soon as they had disappeared, and Steve and Samuel had left too. "There are vampires, actual vampires, in our house!" Lanie had finally let go of my hand, and she glanced up at Jaydon nervously.

"Please don't start a fight in the house," she asked her big brother quietly. "At least wait until you're outside." She was actually being quite serious.

"Don't worry, little sis," he assured her with his usual boyish grin. "I couldn't start a fight with Steve and Patricia around anyways." Lanie smiled a little bit.

"When you start a fight, let me know," Mark commented. "I'll help you. I don't like vampires. Why would Steve and Patricia bring them here? This is our home!" Ryan nodded his agreement. I felt sorry for the vampire who got in a fight with Ryan. His biceps were wider around than Lanie's thigh, and nothing fazed him.

"Well Steve and Patricia had to of had a good reason for bringing them here," Jenni said calmly. "They don't seem too terrible." Her brother gaped at her, looking at her as though he had never seen her before in his life.

"A good reason?!?" he shouted. "Are you kidding me, Jenni? Vampires are our natural enemies!"

"Well they didn't seem that bad," she returned sharply.

"They're vampires, Jen!"

"What do you think, Sera?" she asked, turning to me instead of replying to her brother. I was hoping that they wouldn't bring the conversation over to me. I wasn't sure what I thought. My instincts told me to hate vampires, but these two had been brought here by our Alpha and his mate. And besides, they seemed nice enough.

"I don't know," I finally answered. "Ask me again later." With that I grabbed hold of Lanie's hand and walked out of the room, leaving Jaydon to continue his shouting match with his sister. Mark and Ryan remained also, looking rather amused by the siblings' conversation.

We wandered randomly through the halls, listening for any sign of the others on their tour. I wanted to avoid them if all possible on the way to my room. I had let go of Lanie's hand as soon as we had left the room, but she was still following me like a shadow. We went up three flights of stairs and then took a left. There was still no sign of anyone, and so we darted into my room. I flopped onto my bed and Lanie sat down on my windowseat.

"Are you mad at Steve and Patricia?" Lanie's quiet voice broke through the peaceful stillness that my mind had been wrapped in.

"No. I'm just wondering why they decided to do this. I'm not going to touch what's-her-face or what's-his-face. I'll leave that for Jaydon and the other boys. I think I'll just lay low for a while and see what they're like. I mean, I've never really known any vampires before. I just get this feeling in my gut whenever I see a vampire."

Lanie nodded solemnly. She could act so grown up sometimes. "I think these vampires are different than the ones we see in the back alleys, Serafina. I just get this feeling from them, like they're not bad like Jaydon makes them out to be."

I dropped my head back onto my pillow. "I just can't believe that they put us into a situation like this. Vampires and werewolves are ancestral enemies, you know that. And the way Jay, Mark, and Ryan are acting, we're never going to resolve our differences. Heck, I don't know if I can stand to be around them for longer than two minutes at a time."

Lanie turned her gaze out the window, not having a response to my latest comment. I glanced up at the ceiling of my room. It was painted dark blue, like the night sky before everything goes pitch black, and it had glow-in-the-dark stars scattered across it, left over from when I was little. Most teenagers would have taken them down by now, but I still liked them.

I heard voices outside, but then they passed. It was the vampires and Peter.
