Ariana followed me out of the house and to the treehouse. I knew it was sort of risky, but I would rather take a little risk than chance someone overhearing our conversation. She didn't comment on anything, but she smiled when she saw the treehouse. "I sort of took it over," I admitted as we climbed inside. "No one else comes here anymore."
"It's nice," she said as she sat down on the couch and I sprawled out on some cushions. "So my brother kissed you?"
I nodded. "Yeah. I was watching TV and he knocked on my door. When I opened it, he kissed me. I kissed him back but then I realized what was going on and I didn't know what to do so I shoved him back and slammed the door in his face. Pretty stupid, huh?"
"Well it makes sense to me," she said gently. "You open your door and you get kissed by a vampire. A vampire who you've known for maybe a month, and who you disliked- maybe even hated- when he first got here."
"Ariana, I didn't hate you guys- well, I don't think I hated you guys- when you first got here. I just didn't trust you and I didn't know what to think of two vampires living in our house. I don't hate or dislike Bishop, well obviously not, but I slammed the door in his face. I have no clue what to say to him now and I really don't want the others to know; they'll tease me endlessly."
"Well, you have a couple options," she said philisophically. "You can pretend like nothing ever happened and hope that he does the same, you can confront him and tell him why you slammed the door in his face, you can wait for him to bring it up, or you can avoid him."
"Well option four is out," I replied immediately. "That would mean not going to dinner, and then Patricia would want to know what was wrong. I really don't want to explain to her and then trouble her what with them just having found Cole."
"Well that leaves you with three."
"I get the feeling that he won't act like nothing happened, either. So I guess that's out too. Which leaves me with two options. Go talk to him, or wait for him to come talk to me. Ariana, both of those suck."
"You're afraid that he'll ask to talk to you in front of everyone?"
"Yes. And I'm afraid that if I go to talk to him I'll have to find him, and that'll he'll be with the boys. If I ask to talk to him privately, they're going to guess anyways. Urgh! Why did he have to kiss me in the first place? This would be so much less complicated if it had been anyone else! If it had been Mark or Ryan I could have just slapped them. But your brother--ay!"
Ariana laughed, but I knew she wasn't laughing at my predicament, she was laughing at my way of venting my frustration. I knew it was pretty funny, but somehow I couldn't laugh. "Serafina," she said softly, "maybe I can make it a bit easier. My brother actually cares about you. I know that he can come off like a player sometimes, but he honestly cares about you."
"Are you sure?" I could hear the insecurity in my voice, and I hated it, but I couldn't make it go away. I was glad that it was Ariana I was talking to. I had a feeling that she wouldn't make fun of me for it. "If there's one thing I hate, it's making a fool out of myself."
"I'm sure," she answered with a smile. "Now come on, let's go back. Maybe my brother will have decided to look for you, now that you've had time to cool off and think about what happened." She got up and I did too.
"Maybe." The walk back to the house was uneventful, thankfully. Ariana set off to find Peter, and I made a beeline for my room. No use wandering around where the guys could find me easily. Ariana had said that Bishop wouldn't tell anyone, but I still was worried about it.
