I'm sorry about the delay in this update! I got home from Quebec for a week and it was a lot busier than I thought it would be, and then suddenly I had to move back to Winnipeg for college. The airports weren't as easy to get these done :(
"No, Ari, I'm telling you the truth. Why would I lie about something like that?" Dylan Strome, my best friend, just shook his head. "What makes it so hard to believe?"
"Because he's still dating Olivia," you stated. "Remember? The girl he's been with for two years?"
Dylan rolled his eyes.
"Doesn't mean he's loved her for two years," he insisted. "Come on, the guy is miserable."
"He would never break up with Olivia, especially for someone like me."
"Yeah, yeah he would. He already did."
You blinked.
"Huh?"
*Thomas' POV*
I sighed as the door slammed. I guess I kinda was a jerk for breaking up with Olivia when she'd come out here with me, but it'd just come out. The argument had been dumb, but it escalated. It was, on my end at least, done a long time ago, but I couldn't gather the guts to break things off.
I decided to go for a walk to get my mind off things, so I grabbed my phone, earbuds and a warmer sweater and headed out. I pushed the button and waited for the elevator. People were walking by and a few stopped to take the elevator as well, but I didn't bother to look at who was there.
"Hey Thomas."
I jumped as someone said my name as we got in the elevator, when the song changed. I looked over to see Ariana, Olivia's ex-best-friend and Stromer's current-best-friend.
"Oh, hey Ari."
"You ok?" she asked, her brow twitching in concern.
"Yeah, I'm good."
"Bull."
I smiled weakly and she returned a crooked one of her own. Conversation lulled while we went down in the elevator with the other people around, and she fell into step beside me as I walked towards the front door.
"Dylan mentioned you broke up with Olivia," she whispered. "Are you sure you're ok?"
"Yeah," I murmured with a shrug, stopping. "I mean it stings and all, but it's been over for a long time."
"Really?" She raised her eyebrows. "You guys seemed fine last night."
I just shrugged again, doing my best to ignore her. But she didn't give up easily.
"It's complicated," I tried.
"I'd like to think of myself as rather intelligent," she pried.
"It's—" I couldn't tell her that it was because of her that I broke up with Olivia—that would be the ultimate jerk move. "It was over because I like someone else. Love, even."
*Back to Ariana's POV*
You felt your heart sink when he mentioned the other girl. He wouldn't have said that if Dylan was right, and he liked you.
"How'd she take it?" you inquired.
"Not well. She grabbed her stuff and is on her way to the airport right now."
Wow. That was tough.
"That sucks. I'm sorry."
He shook his head.
"Like I said, it was over anyway," he stated.
"Are you going for the other girl?" you asked.
He looked at you.
"Do you think I should?"
"Well, you're single now. If you're totally sure that things are through with Olivia then—"
He cut you off by covering your mouth with his own. You stood, shocked, before it clicked in what was going on, and you rested your hands on his chest as you kissed back. It felt like everything was stopped, but the spell broke when cheers and whistles filled the lobby. You broke apart to see Dylan with a few of the other guys, clapping and cheering.
"Finally!" Dylan exclaimed, making your cheeks heat up.
Thomas stayed quiet, but you caught his cheeks turning a little pink as well.
"So, is this a thing now then or...?"
Now, you looked at each other.
"Well?" Thomas asked. "I'm in if you are."
Not super-romantic, but at this point, I don't care much about that anymore.
"Yeah," you whispered with a small smile. "I'd like that."
