Remember, this is in no way to progress the plot or anything, even if it does refer to the past mission. I just wrote it because yay Easter! Also, Nion. ((I love him if you haven't noticed now)) easter was yesterday for me, but I don't know about other timeones. Anyway, I hope you all got lots of chocolate!!!! Happy Easter you guys!!!
I didn’t really know what to say, as I opened the door of my house, only to be greeted by a plethora of colour, and a strong smell of sweets. My head turned slowly to the side, where I noticed a head of dark, spikey hair sitting on my family couch. I knew who it was immediately, and scowled.
“Nion, what are you doing here?” His head turned and he seemed genuinely shocked to see me, rising from the chair before approaching. His lips curved into an uneven smile, and he pointed to his sweater, which I hadn’t initially noticed.
“Do you like it? Your mum made it for me!” The sweater was coated with colour, a rabbit with a party hat knitted into the centre of the item. It was stupid.
“I hate it.” My brother’s smile dropped, momentarily stony faced as he looked down at me, before I slammed the front door shut behind me in a final gesture to communicate my displeasure. Home was supposed to be my escape, but he’d invaded that, too.
“Migome, where are you going?” My mother appeared, a dishtowel in her hands as she watched me ascend the stairs. “We have guests! Migome!”
“He’s hardly worth my time.” I reached the top of the stairs, before I heard another voice.
“Hey, come down for a little bit. It’ll be fun, I promise.” I paused, shutting my eyes as my chest began to hurt. Turning my head, I knew what to expect. At the bottom of the stairs, Kakashi stood, still as pained as ever. Since the mission, he’d lost his sense of self, and tended to walk with a noticeable hunching of the shoulders, and his head rarely rising to look straight ahead. Always to the ground- always to where his daughter was buried.
“Migome,” Nion appeared behind Kakashi, my mother beside him. “For the first time, I’d like to do something as a family.” I watched as the front door opened, then closed, a heavy sigh being heaved from the woman who’d entered.
“Sorry I’m late.” Hatsuni turned, removing her vest so she was merely in her stark black t-shirt. I almost turned back around to continue to my room, but, as Nion began to smile again, I remembered the mission, once more. How I rescued him, and how we were both so very, very close to death.
Nion pulled me into an embrace when I sat next to him on the couch, ignoring my resistance until I finally submitted and, with crossed arms and a pout, allowed myself to rest my weight on him. With a hot chocolate in hand, I caught him grin down at me, and I only glared, looking anyway but at him. My mother sat beside Hatsuni, with Kakashi next to her. All, except Hatsuni, were wearing similar sweaters to Nion. All, not surprisingly, a similar shade of hideous.
“What is this all for, anyway?” Everyone seemed to stop whatever it was that they were doing, opting to stare at me, as if I’d grown a second head. “What?”
“Are you joking?” Hatsuni sat forward, resting her chin in the palm of her hand as her elbow was propped on her knee. I scowled at her, but Nion held me down.
“Shut up.” From beside me, my brother laughed, the jumping of his shoulders hurting my head.
“It’s Easter, idiot!” I huffed, avoiding all eye contact, until I heard my mother begin to laugh.
“Of course you’d forget, Migome. Don’t worry, Love, even if you didn’t remember, we did, and you have lots of chocolate waiting in the kitchen.”
Even if I didn’t want to be wear I was, and even if I was a little embarrassed about forgetting the occasion, I still took my chance to say it, as I didn’t know if I would be around to say it again. “Happy Easter.”
