"And even though I'm unsure about most things in life, I am certain that I love you and will continue to love you forever."
It was shortly after graduation and Liam, along with his girlfriend Y/N found themselves at a house on the ocean in Solana Beach. It belonged to Mason's family and the couple had made plans to stay there for a few weeks with Mason and Corey, spend as much time together as they could before they all went off to college. Liam and Y/N had offered to come a few days early, clean up the place and fill it with food and any other things they may need while there. It was the third night, there last night alone before Mason and his boyfriend would arrive.
The two sat out of the beach watching the sun set over the water in total silence. This weekend felt like the first time they could breath in so long. There were no monsters to fight or lives to save, it was just the two of them. It had become a rather domestic situation over the past few days between the two of them, they would wake up beside each other in the morning and spend the day together cooking and cleaning and just being together. Liam felt as if he was already living a life of his dreams in a home with the woman he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. Like playing house with more reality to it.
Liam turned to look at his girlfriend, taking in her facial features, the way her eyes focused on the sun as it dipped below the waterline, orange and pink hues spreading across the earth; the way the corners of her lips always seemed to be turned up just slightly as she took in the wonders around her. He knew he loved her more than anything in the world and after everything they had been through together it just felt right being domestic together, like that's the way it should always be.
Liam was still admiring her profile when the words tumbled from his lips.
"Marry me."
Y/N whipped her head in Liam's direction, confusion evident on her face. "What did you just say?"
Liam gulped, looking deeply into her eyes. It had been an accident but it wasn't a mistake, this is what he wanted. So he repeated his statement. "I said, marry me."
"Liam, what are you talking about? Where did this even come from?"
"I've just been thinking a lot, and I'm not sure about anything in my life. I don't know what I'm going to study in college and I don't know where I'm going after community college. I don't know when I'll be able to afford to live on my own or if I ever will. I don't even know if I will get to see the sunrise tomorrow. I'm 18 years old and I am so aware of my own mortality that I'm not even scared of it. There is only one thing in this entire world that I am completely and totally certain of and that is how much I love you. How certain I am that I will love you for as long as I live. That I can't spend one second of the rest of my time on earth not loving you," Liam moved to his knees, taking Y/N's hands into his own before looking at her once again. "I don't have a ring or anything but, how about it? It's only the rest of our lives, and who knows how long that'll be."
It was silent between them for a moment before acknowledged is request; a grin spreading across her face as she made one of her own. "How about you ask me, really ask me?"
"Y/N, will you marry me?"
"Yes."
"Yes." It only took seconds for Liam to realize what had just happened and he was unable to contain himself as he jumped from the ground, pulling his girlfriend up with him. "Oh my god. YES!"
She pulled away slightly looking up at Liam. "Let's go now."
"Are you serious?"
"I am totally serious. It's gotta be like, what? A little over five hours to Vegas from here. It's like you said, we are 18 and we are so aware of our own mortality it wouldn't surprise us to die tomorrow. But we have right now, so let's go now." Y/N began to walk toward the house, pulling Liam behind her as he protested slightly.
"Y/N, wait! What about our friends, our families, and you've always talked about big white weddings with Lydia and Kira, even Malia. What changed?"
Y/N stopped and turned around quickly to respond. "It became real. I don't care who's there and who isn't. We'll call everyone on our way and they will either be there or they won't. I couldn't care less where we got married, I would marry you on my front porch with the mailman as our only witness and still be the happiest woman in all of existence because I would be marrying you, and that's the only part that really matters."
Liam sighed, rolling his eyes, a huge grin evident on his lips. "Goddamn it I love you, but I have a better idea. First off, my mom will kill me if she's not at my wedding. Second, by the time we get there the clerk's office will be closed so we won't be able to get a license. Third, I want to have at least one night of making love to my fiance before she's my wife. So let's have this one night together, we can call everyone and tell them to meet up with us tomorrow, get married with the people we love around us."
Y/N sighed, "You make a fair point, but you better take advantage of this one night because it's the only one you're going to get." She then took Liam's hand, leading him back towards the house. Though he was sure he would have followed anywhere she was leading him, and he planned to for the rest of his life.
