When I get to school, I am a little early so I just wait at my locker. Nick comes out of the principle's office with Proffecer Worthy who points smiles and waves at me. I attempt a smile and wave back. Nick comes my way. He says "So your Nate, I haven't officially met you." I say "Yep that's me, Nate Taylor, also known as-" Cooper sneaks up behind me and finishes "- school trouble maker, best and most awesome friend ever, and the Queen of Detention himself." I roll my eyes and I say "Only part of that was true." Nick asks "Which ones the awesome friend one and the trouble maker?" I smile a little "Not quite, The trouble maker is partly true, the Most Detention Slips is true and unfortunately the depressed one is true." Nick nods slowly. "No! The best friend one is also true!" I roll my eyes "Whatever you say Coop, whatever you say." She ignores me and says to Nick "So your the one that Nate has to take care of!" I smile again and say "Not quite, more like make sure he doesn't get beaten or lost." Nick's dark blue eyes grow wider " beaten?" Blair materialises beside Cooper and says "Yeah you had better watch your back, your pretty safe now the school is at a mourning point and-" Cooper cuts her off with a murderous look. I stiffen a little. "Ok what is going on, Nate why did you end up crying in the principle's office yesterday and why did you yell at the teacher? Why does everybody keep mentioning mourning and stuff?" I bite my lip and glance at Cooper. She nods and I say "I have to go...fix...my...hair. Brb." I walk quickly to the bathroom and watch around the corner. Cooper is explaining and the more she does the redder Nick's face gets. He says something to Cooper and her eyebrows go up slightly. 'He's kind of cute when he's embarrassed.' I think but quickly block the thought guiltily. I go back into the bathroom and look at myself in the mirror. I look exhausted. My hair is a mess, my shirt is wrinkled at the sleeve and hem, and my clear blue eyes are blood shot. I don't turn around when I hear somebody come in and to my surprise it is Nick. He stands in the mirror behind me. "I'm sorry." He says. I look down at the sink in front of me. "I don't want pity." I say. He nods. "I didn't think you would, I am sorry for asking about it." I look up and stare at him through the mirror. "You had a right to know, I just don't like talking about it and I figured whoever you got assigned to would tell you, but then it was me and..." "They told me the story, but I don't like not knowing people that everyone else knows." Nick says. I turn and look at him then close my eyes for a few seconds and say "He was...sweet, romantic most of the time, and handsome." I bite my lip "he...was...tall he had brown green eyes and bleach blond hair and fast. He...was everything to me." I slide over to the wall and lean against it. Just as I start to say something else, somebody starts to walk in and freezes. He is wearing his black uniform, his black hair sticking out all over his head, his pale skin making his bright blue eyes stick out under the mass of wild dark hair. He freezes and I'm sure my eyes grow into the size of golf balls. "Riker I-" I attempt to say. "Don't even try Nate I want nothing to do with you." Then he turns and walks back out. Nick looks at me confused again. "That's one of...his brother Riker Lee. We were really good friends until...that happened and he blames me for his older brother's death. Just because I was...there." Nick just stares at me with an odd look in his face. The bell rings and I sigh "Another start of school. Lets see how many detention slips I get today!"
