Authors Note: Thank you for voting on the last chapter. The winner of the poll was for reader to become a one man team, and a sort of honorary member to team RWBY. Hope you all enjoy
Juane frantically asks if Ozpin handed out parachutes, or what the landing strategy is. Ozpin chuckles humorlessly and explains that you all have to come up with your own landing strategy. Forget what you said earlier about Ozpin being more sane than the rest of you in his own way.
You're launched into the air, and quickly begin to fall. " Iron Dragon Scales," you say. The metal scales cover you, and you smash into the ground kicking up a dust cloud. Your impact causes the ground beneath you to crack. The force of your impact causes your feet to tingle, but your scales are as tough as ever, negating any serious damage.
As you make your way through the forest, you encounter dozens of Ursa and Beowulf Grim. However, you power through them with little effort. After fighting the Element Four, mindless enemies don't seem to be much of a challenge. However, you're sure to keep your guard up and not get cocky.
As you head towards where the relics are held, you wonder who you'll be partnered up with. Hopefully you get a good team, with people you could get along with. You thought of all the people you knew, and who you'd like to be teamed up with.
Blake, obviously. That had nothing to do with your feelings for her. She was one of the best fighters you knew, and would make a great addition to any team. Phyrra would also make a good teammate. You knew her Semblance was Polarity, which would make a great match for all your metal based abilities. Ruby may be a bit energetic for your tastes, but if she got into Beacon two years early, than surely she could handle herself.
Your thoughts are interrupted when you make your way to the temple. The so called " relics" are really just chess pieces. You roll your eyes and start to wonder which one to pick. As you're deciding, you notice other students heading towards the temple. A soft chuckle escapes you. Ozpin really shouldn't be so flippant in how partners are chosen.
For one, you have a world renowned fighter like Phyrra on the same team as Juane. Sure he might have talents, but in a stand up fight, he'd be practically useless to her. And then you looked at Ruby and Weiss being a duo. Surely Ozpin must've known that Weiss hated the younger girl.
You feel bad for Ren as well. While Nora is a capable fighter, and a good person, she seems a little....loud. And from what you could tell, Ren was someone who appreciated silence. But when you saw the last pair, you couldn't help but smile. Blake had been paired with Yang.
Yang had impressed you when you had seen her landing strategy. She seemed like she'd be a great partner for Blake. A great fighter, strong and would never abandon her if things got rough. As you mentally celebrate Blake finding a good partner, it dawns on you that you don't actually have a partner.
Before you can think about it too long, the Nevermore and Scorpio Grim appear. ( A/n: I only know the name of the Nevermore Grim because it's mentioned in the show. The scorpion Grim has not been named, at least not where I am in RWBY which is volume three. If anyone knows the official name, please feel free to mention it.)
Yang chuckled. " Great. Gangs all here." She said. " Now we can all die together."
You couldn't help but somewhat agree with her assessment. You knew both Grim were extremely powerful. Granted, you were in pretty good company. If it came to a fight, there weren't any students in Beacon you would rather have backing you.
While fighting the two Grim, the nine of you end up broken into two groups. Blake, Yang, Ruby and Weiss end up fighting the Nevermore Grim, while you, Ren, Nora, Jaune and Phyrra end up fighting the Scorpio. Despite your best efforts, it's exoskeleton repels most of your attacks. Only Nora has managed to hurt it, but nowhere near enough to put it down.
The Scorpio thrusts its tail at you. Using your scales, you brace against the impact and catch it. Straining, you dig your feet into the ground and pull back. There's a sickening crack, and the tail comes detached from the Grim. Blood and poison splatters you, causing your scales to sizzle.
With a pained roar, the Scorpio staggers back. " Phyrra," you call out. " I need you to do something with your Semblance. When I start firing, you'll know what to do!"
She nods. " Iron Dragon Lance! Demon Arm." Lances fly towards the Scorpio. Phyrra concentrates and directs them all to where the tail used to be. Each one connects, and they all pin what's left of us his tail into the ground. Nora uses her hammer to hit the nails with enough force, cutting the Grim in half.
You turn and see that the girls have managed to kill the Nevermore Grim. Once that make their way back to you, the group heads back towards Beacon, carrying chess pieces from the temple. Out of instinct, you grab the Black King. You know no one else has it, but something tells you it's better to have a piece.
