love doesn't mean a happily ever after
love isn't "the end"
love isn't the final chapter
of the book that is your lifelove shatters you thoroughly
you can only pray that you're strong enough to withstand the blowlove is to live in constant fear
that something is wrong
that something is broken
that something is silently waiting
to be messed uplove is to sacrifice
the idea of the rest of your life
and lay it at their feet
willinglylove is to balance on broken glass
and listen to them tell you not to cut yourself
even as they shove you down
onto the jagged shardslove is to watch them light a match
and throw it at your feet
their eyes remain focused
as you're burned
into nothing but asheslove is to be the moon
to their sun;
to merely reflect their light
and have none of your ownlove is to have your heart stolen
and have them flounce it in front of your face
as if it was a prize that they won
and now rightfully ownlove is to be a gentle, flowing stream
that will always lead to the thunderous ocean
with commanding waves crashing into the shore
and endless bodies that take everything you have
and demand m o r elove is to be a falling snowflake
that possesses no control
as to where you land
their wind blows you
wherever it wishes for you to golove is to be a dandelion
while they're a beautiful rose bush
with dangerous thorns that could
pierce both your skin and heartlove is to be the small rain cloud
that's incapable of causing any damage
while they're the hurricane
strong enough to rip you to shredslove is to be bleeding
while they complain of pain
and ask you to heal them
you try, but your bloodied fingers stain everythinglove is to be a burning ember
buried beneath the crumpled ashes
while their flames explode above you
infinitely more powerful and dangerous
than you'll ever belove is pain
love is strong
love is sacrifice
love is fear
but, more than anything,
love is an illusion-but maybe this was just us
