**Cali's POV**
I trudged to the bus stop on Wednesday morning in the rain. Wonderful way to start the day, huh? If it was rainy, I can guarantee that my mood reflected it. I just wanted it to be sunny and warm all the time. Once, I suggested to my mom that we move to California, seeing as my name is Cali and that I love warm weather.
"Mom, I heard Los Angeles is beautiful this time of year!" I had told her.
"Cali, we're not going to LA."
"Okay, how about San Diego?"
"No. We're not going out to California."
"But that's the state I'm named after, right?" I persisted. I remember she had sighed and rolled her eyes.
"No, your name is Calissa. Cali is just the nickname you chose. I'm really not in the mood for this right now honey..." She had said.
So that's that...I'll just be stuck here in Louisiana. I tugged the hood of my sweatshirt over my head again. The wind had blown it off for the thousandth time.
"Good morning sunshine!" A voice said from behind me. I turned around a groaned at my best friend.
"Haha, Aaron. Very funny." I told him sarcastically. My best friend was Aaron Carpenter. You might know him from Vine or YouTube or whatever. A few months ago, he got really famous. He goes to Magcon almost every weekend now. I was scared when he blew up all over the internet. Aaron and I have been friends since we were 4, and I didn't want anything to ruin our friendship. He was the closest friend I had. But here we are, nearing the end of our freshman year, and we're closer than ever. Even with all his fame.
"Aw, c'mon Cali. You're not really mad are you?" He asked with a huge smile. He already knew the answer to that question. It was really hard for me to be mad at him, he was such a goof. I hardly ever had any real fights with him.
"No, but that doesn't mean I'm not in a crap mood." I replied.
"Ah, I figured. I have yet to see a rainy day where you're happy." He laughed as the bus pulled up. We sat in our normal seat on the bus, right in the middle. "Hey Cal, I have a surprise for you." He told me once we had sat down.
"I hate it when you call me that." I scrunched my nose. Aaron was the only one who called me Cal. "Makes me sound like a boy." I said.
"Nah, it's cute. I promise. Now do you want to know what the surprise is or not? It's a birthday surprise." He said excitedly.
"My birthday isn't until tomorrow..." I started, but he just shook his head. Tomorrow, I would be turning 15. My birthday was pretty late in the school year, being in May, so almost everyone else in our grade was older than me. "Ok, tell me." I told him.
"Well I have to tell you so you can pack. We're going to California!!!" He shouted. My jaw dropped.
"Aaron I swear, this better not be a joke!"
"It's not! There's a Magcon in LA this weekend, and your mom and dad said you can come with me!"
"OH MY GOD!" I screamed. Everyone on the bus looked at me. I immediately turned red. "Sorry." I mumbled. Then I turned back to Aaron. "You are the greatest best friend ever." I said, hugging him. He laughed.
"We leave Friday afternoon. I can't wait for you to meet the guys. They're gonna love you." I couldn't wipe the huge grin off my face. "Wow."
"What?"
"I take back what I said earlier. This is first time I've seen Cali Laker smile when the sun isn't shining!" I laughed and lightly punched his shoulder as the bus pulled into school.
