**Cali's POV**

The next morning when I woke up, my room was decorated with streamers and balloons. I smiled, and luckily the sun was shining. I threw on dark jeans and a white peplum top with a gold necklace. I did eyeliner and mascara, and a bit of concealer. I even left time to straighten my hair. I skipped downstairs, and my mom had made me waffles.

"Yum! Thanks mom." I said, giving her a hug.

"No problem honey. Happy birthday! I can't believe you're already 15." She sniffed and pretended to cry. I laughed and ate my breakfast. Then I slipped on my vans, grabbed my backpack, walked down to the bus stop, and waited for Aaron. It was fairly warm out, so I didn't mind standing there. But as the time grew closer for the bus to come, Aaron didn't show up. And when the bus arrived, he still wasn't there. I groaned. Great, sitting alone on my birthday. I sat down and texted him.

"To Aaron: where are you loser?"

My phone buzzed a second later with a reply.

"From Aaron: happy birthday!!! Sorry, I overslept. See ya at school! :)"

Ugh. Why did he have to oversleep today? But when I got to school, I was surprised. I got off the bus and there was Aaron and my other friends, Gavin, Maia, and Hayley.

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!" They yelled. Aaron held out a chocolate cupcake with a '15' on it in icing. I laughed as I took it.

"Overslept huh?" I asked Aaron. He smirked.

"Yeah, I lied." I laughed some more and hugged them all.

"Thank you guys. This is great. You guys are the best."

"Surprising you was Aaron's idea, the cupcake was Gavin's idea, and Hayley and I made the executive decision not to let the guys throw confetti at you." Maia told me.

"Thanks. Good decision, I can do without the confetti in my hair all day." I replied with a smile. And with that, we all walked into school.

All day, all I could think about was my party tonight. Hayley was letting us use her backyard because hers was big, plus it had a pool. About 35 kids from school were coming, and my parents even agreed not to come outside and snoop. It was all I could think about. When the final bell rang at the end of the day, I practically ran to the bus.

"Whoa." Aaron said as I sat down next to him. "Did you run to the bus?"

"Yes. I just want to get home so I can go to Hayley's and set up for tonight. I'm excited!" I told him. He laughed.

"Obviously."

Once at home, I started gathering all my stuff to go to Hayley's house. The party supplies were already there, so I just needed my bathing suit, a towel, and some other small things. I grabbed my phone from my bed and checked twitter, then realized I was down to 4% battery.

"Shoot." I mumbled, searching my room for my charger. Then I remembered I left it at Aaron's a few days ago. I groaned and texted him.

"To Aaron: hey, I'm coming over real quick. Think I left my charger over there."

I grabbed my stuff and ran down the street, knocking on his door. His mom opened it.

"Hi Cali! Happy birthday! What's up?" She asked cheerily.

"Thank you Mrs. Carpenter! I think I just forgot my phone charger in Aaron's room the other day."

"Well no problem. He's up there, go ahead in." I thanked her and ran upstairs and knocked on the door.

"Mom I told you I already did my homework, okay?" He called through the door. I smirked and walked in.

"Not your mom." I said.

"What are you doing here?"

"Rude. I texted you."

"Oh sorry. I haven't checked my phone since I got home."

"Yeah, well I think I left my charger here. Help me look?" I asked.

"Yeah sure." We started to look around the room." Check under the bed." He told me, and we both got down on our hands and knees to look under the bed.

"Ah. Here it is." I said, pulling out the white cable. "Not sure how it ended up under there but okay." He gave a light laugh and we both sat up. Our faces were inches apart, and he looked me in the eyes. I stared back, and I'm not sure why. It was weird. I don't know why it was so awkward. This had happened before, us being close I mean. But it had never been weird like this before. Finally, I stood up. He did too.

"Well I have to get ready for later..." He said quietly. Was he blushing?

"Yeah. Okay. Uh...see you tonight." I told him, and walked out. I said goodbye to his mom and started walking to Hayley's. I couldn't get over how awkward that whole scene with Aaron had been. I didn't understand. Nothing like that had happened before. I was confused, and most of all afraid of what would happen next.
