The tears flowed unchecked down her cheeks and dripped from her chin. She was too sad to cry out or wail, she just stood there as still as a statue...

MAL watched with a resting pouty face and her hands on her hips as Carlos tapped on his personal laptop, focused on hacking into the school's hospital records for her. He had a hunch that she was mad at him right now. Whether it was because of her default 'I didn't get my way' stare or her 'I'm going to breathe down your neck' stance — the hunch was just there.
"Stop pouting," he sighed, without having to pry his eyes away from his screen.
She sent him a quick glare before plopping down on his bed, resting her hands on her lap, "Don't you miss stealing? Didn't it feel good?"

"Unlike the rest of us, Evie was nice. Despite the Isle's conditions, she was grateful. I admired that about her."
He couldn't see it in her green eyes but there was a brief flicker of jealousy within them, holding an emotion that Mal struggled to push back.
".... Did you have a crush on her?"
"What- no?" He scoffed, nearly offended, "People can admire stuff in others without having to like them, Mal."
"Really? Then what do you admire about me?"
Carlos shook his head as he thought on it, shrugging his shoulders, "You saved me from being fish food that one time,"
