I know as soon as I step out of the car that it's gonna rain. The sky is gray and swollen, and looks like it's gonna burst. Now, most people would be upset, you see. Most people would think that the rain is going to ruin their whole day. But not me. Never me. I love the rain. It makes me happy. It always brings me joy and clears my mind. I guess I'm a pluviophile.
Looking around, I walk up to the building where I'd be living from now on. My family.. Well, it's hard to explain. I just couldn't stay with them anymore, or so the state suggests. So now I'm living halfway across the country in some little dormitory that schools high school and college-level students. The prospect of living with college-level boys would be very exciting for a sixteen-year-old girl, but I guess I'm not like other girls, because I'm afraid. I don't know how I'm gonna handle this.
I walk inside, breathing in the air-conditioned air. Tons of people are running around, and I have to weave in between them to not get smashed. This was going to be fun, I could see it now. I walk to the front desk. The secretary gives me a stiff smile over her glasses, and I could tell that she didn't want to be there. The layer of perspiration on her brow and smudge of red lipstick on her teeth proves that she really doesn't want to be here.
"What are you here for?" She asks. "Well, I was moved here by the United States government to come to school here.. So, I need my dorm key and my class schedule." I say, not exactly wanting to admit that the states had moved me here because my family was so messed up that they couldn't keep their kids. She nods. "Name." She says. "Annabella Jackson." I say. She nods again, grabbing a slip of paper and a room key. I thank her, then walk off.
My room was on the top floor. I get in the elevator, not trusting the stairs. Knowing me, I'd get trampled on my first day. I step out on my floor, and am stopped in place. There's lots of people on my floor, but a group of five guys catch my eye. They're tall, muscled, and plain scary. Covered in tattoos and piercings, they look like they could be in a gang or something. I bite my lip when I notice that they're standing in front of my dorm.
With a sigh, I walk over to the door. One of the guys with blonde-brown hair with purple in it stares at me, but I try to ignore it. "Um, excuse me.. Can I get into my room?" I ask softly. A tall brunette with chocolate brown eyes and both sleeves looks down at me. "You new here?" He asks. I nod. "What's your name, love? I'm Liam, by the way. Your roommate is my girlfriend, Dani." He says. This one seems nice enough. "I'm Annabella.. But I go by Anna." I say. He nods and steps out from in front of the door. I step inside, and happen to look up as I do.
I catch the eye of the blonde. His blue eyes stare into mine, captivating me. I feel my breath catch in my throat. Oh God, he was beautiful. I rip my eyes away and duck into my room. I can't fall for this boy. He's going to be a bad idea, I can tell.
