"Why are you smiling?"
"No, I'm not." Jihyo denied it and hid her phone right away, as her dongsaeng is someone curious about everything. "Are your guests already here?" She asked instead to divert the topic and also because Kwangsoo suddenly changed his birthday party's venue from his condo unit to their private villa in the metro. With that, she also expected that there would be a lot of people around so she chose to stay inside the guest room for a while.
"I-I only invited you, Insung hyung, Hyunbin hyung, then Woobin-"
"And Jongkook oppa?"
Kwangsoo nodded slowly. "I also invited my college friends, then some colleagues..." he continued. The minute-long silence passed by quickly as the doorbell rang.
"I'll get the door," Jihyo said, making her way outside the villa. The sun is almost setting, and more people, not just the ones Kwangsoo mentioned, are also starting to show up at the party.
"Could it be Woobin?" Kwangsoo took a wild guess while Jihyo opened the gate. His mouth parted in shock as someone unexpectedly stood in front of them.
"Oppa."
Jongkook just gave Jihyo a small smile, then he proceeded to look at Kwangsoo. "Happy birthday, Kwangsoo."
"Thank you, hyung," Kwangsoo replied.
She was undeniably stunned by his presence, and she didn't know how to act in front of him, especially when this was the first time they had met since they broke up.
"Shall we go inside?" Kwangsoo said and led the way for Jongkook, who just followed him inside.
The bittersweet feeling disguised in a cold breeze passed through Jihyo when Jongkook walked in front of her. She stood still as she watched him become someone she used to know.
After a while, Jihyo suddenly felt someone put a cap over her head. She looked behind her back and saw Insung standing in front of her. "I didn't know the party would be here outside," he playfully said, and it made her smile.
"Were you just watching me since earlier?"
"I just arrived, actually."
"I doubt that. You probably saw my mind flying over my head."
And she was right. Insung got there at the same time as Jongkook did, but he didn't want to interfere with what he saw. He knew for a fact that he's just someone who knows them, and a boundary should still be there.
Yet, not wanting to make the atmosphere heavy again, Insung looked up and said, "Where?" Then he acted like he was finding something above the sky.
Jihyo sighed heavily. "Stop it. Kwangsoo's waiting for you inside."
"Are you sure it's only Kwangsoo?"
"Obviously, this is not my birthday party. It's Kwangsoo's."
"Well, speaking of..."
"Insung hyung! I'm glad you came!"
Jihyo immediately removed Insung's cap and handed it to him. Then she immediately moved away as Kwangsoo walked closer to them. "I'll go back inside."
The loud music welcomed her the moment she went to the pool area. It was kind of bearable, but the number of people around her was not. It's not like she hates being around them, which would be ironic for her nature of work, but it surely gets overwhelming at some point.
With that, Jihyo just went to the corner of the living room, hoping that no one would disturb her peace for the next few hours... but she was wrong, as Jongkook was also there.
