"Juliani, you are checking out," my teacher tells me as she got off the phone.
I get my stuff in a huff while I pick up my black and white striped backpack.
"Your mom was talking on the phone last night, you have a new therapist," Sam tells me as we walk out.
"Time to see a shrink to tell me something I have heard a million times," I respond.
"Maybe he or she will be different."
" I doubt it."
"Be more op..."
"Optimistic?"
"Sh... I think there is a demon."
"Please don't, I get nervous when you fight them,"I whisper.
"I need to protect you any way I can. It is Self-hatred, I will meet you at the house."
He ran off, I bite my lip nervously as I walk to the front of the school. I see my mum in her work uniform standing at the front door. I grip the bottom of my sleeve to cover some old scars. Some were from other kids some were from me.
"Hey, Juliani." My mother says as I enter the lobby.
I give her a faux smile and she falls for it. She always does.
"I think you will like Dr. Chang, " She states.
"Why do you say that?" I ask.
"I heard he is very attractive and he actually is married to your math teacher. "
"That is nice," I say sarcastically.
"At least give him a chance."
"Okay."
We get in the car and on the way my mother plays the Christian music on the radio station 'Way F.M.' The only sound was the music, I check my phone and see my 'Icon for Hire' background. Ariel Bloomer and Shawn Jump are probably the most talented people out there. When we get there I realized that their song 'Happy Hurts' described how I felt accurately. The only time I feel happy is with Sam, but it hurts because it reminds me that I am the reason he is still here.
I walk into the office and sat in the waiting room with my mom. She checked me in and I waited, I start thinking of Sam he is technically 19, but those demons can be awfully dangerous, but he doesn't care. He just wants to protect me in any way he can. This demon though is personal because I have been struggling with it since I was 8 years old.
"Are you Juliani?" A man asks me I assume that is Dr. Chang.
"Yes, sir," I respond.
"Would you like to have your mother come back with us or by yourself?"
"I can be by myself."
"Okay then, follow me."
I follow him and sit on the couch.
"So, let's get to know each other, according to your file you have a friend Sam?"
"Yes, he passed away ten years ago, but he is still here in till I learn how to stand up for myself! He is not imaginary, it is just I am the only one that can see him!" I slightly yell.
"I believe you," He says calmly.
"What?"
"I do not think you are lying nor crazy."
"Are you serious?"
"Yes."
"Why? No one ever doses."
"I think you have had such a traumatic experience that your mind imagine..."
"Let me cut you off right there, you do not actually, believe me, I already have been told what you are about to say. He is real."I ended up crying having a mental breakdown.
"Where is Sam right now?"
"Fighting a Demon."
He turned his head and looked super confused.
"I knew you wouldn't understand."
"I want to understand though."
I recompose myself than let out a deep breath.
"When Sam's soul and his body were both alive he uses to stand up for me when his body was burnt to the point he died his soul stayed on earth and cannot leave earth till I learn how to stand up for myself. He can not fight people, but he can fight off Demons because he is technically an Angel that isn't into heaven." I tell him.
"How long ago was it when his body died?"
"About ten years ago."
"So, he isn't an imaginary, he is a real person?" He asks.
"He is real, his body is dead and his soul is still on earth."
"Yes, you get it!"
