"What are you all dolled up for?" My mom asks with a smile as I go downstairs.
"Logan invited me to go to church with him, may I go?" I ask.
"Are you sure?" She asks as her smile disappears.
"Yes, ma'am."
"You may and to bring your bible," she says grabbing a wine bottle than heads to her room.
"Thank you, mom," I say as she closes her door.
"I do not remember a Sunday after your dad went to jail your mom didn't drink," Sam says.
"Me either."
I hear a knock at the door, I run and get it.
"Hey sweetie, you look amazing," Mrs. Jessica says scanning my outfit.
"Thank you."
"Are you ready?"
"I just need to grab my bible."
"Is your mother coming?"
"We aren't really a church family, we use to, but an incident happens."
"Oh okay," she said putting the puzzle together.
"I am going to get my bible," I tell her.
"That wasn't awkward," Sam says sarcastically.
"Hush, she didn't know," I tell him grabbing my bible and putting on my old cross necklace.
I walk downstairs in black heels that had small bows with a smile.
"I am ready," I tell Mrs. Jessica as she walks with me out the house.
I see Logan and he had a blond wig on, it was a little long, but was still a male haircut. He was wearing a grey tie with a blue button-up, he also had on black pants. It wasn't my Logan. Looking at the overall picture, it was fake. Were his parents ashamed of their own son because of who he was? Did God not love him the same because of the way he looked? Does God does not love me because of the way I look?
"You look amazing," Logan says with a smile.
"You are too," I respond.
"Well, let's go, you guys can flirt later," his father says going into the car.
Logan opens the door and I get in. Sam sits in between us.
"Are you a Christian?" His father asks me.
"I am, I just do not go to church," I tell him.
"Why not?"
"John!" Mrs. Jessica whispers.
"I was just asking a simple question," Mr. John says stern.
"I use to go, but after my father went to prison we stopped,"I tell him quietly.
"Why did he go to prison?"
"Dad you crossed the line!" Logan says with anger.
"You shut your mouth or you will be grounded," his dad says pulling in the parking lot.
"Yes sir," he responds defeated.
"Now, I want everyone in here to think we are a perfect ideal family, " Mr. John says looking at Logan.
Logan nods as he looks down.
"Let's go," Mr. John says getting out.
"If you feel uncomfortable I am here," Sam tells me giving my hand a slight squeeze.
I give him a slight smile than hold Logan's hand.
"I am so sorry about my Dad, " Logan whispers in my ear.
"It's fine," I tell him.
"Hello John, it's so nice to see your family come again," A man says with a smile.
"It is nice to be back," he responds.
"Who is this?" The man asks looking at me with a confused look.
"This is Juliani, Logan is courting her." Mr. John answers.
My eyes widen in shock. Courting is way more serious than dating, yeah I really like him so far, but courting is to marry. I am not even sure if he is my boyfriend yet. I have only known him for a few days and have only been on one date.
"Nice to meet you Juliani, you seem familiar, " He tells me reaching out his hand.
"Nice to meet you too," I tell him shaking his hand.
I look into his eyes then looked around the church, I look at the altar, this is my old church.
"I use to go here when I was younger," I say in a whisper.
"Juliani Youngblood, " Mr. Todd says remembering me and possibly my family.
I try to not remember the alter incident, but I recall it like it was yesterday. It got awkward, I could feel the tension in the room.
"Let's take a seat, "Mrs. Jessica says trying to break the tension.
I let Logan lead me still holding my hand.
"God please let this be quick," I pray closing my eyes, why is this affecting me so much?
I try to follow what everyone, but it was confusing. I didn't recall getting on my knees and standing so much. It felt like the service was taking hours. The whole time I felt like I was about to have an anxiety attack. I can't look at the altar, every time I thought I was about to cry. Please, God helps me.
