"Are you okay Juliani?" Mrs. Jessica asks.
"Yes ma'am, thank you again for taking me out for lunch," I respond.
After church we went out for lunch, we went to this small restaurant called 'Poor boys.' It was run by a little older woman who had a heart of gold.
"I just have to say I love your pink hair," the older woman tells my handing me a piece of cake.
"Thank you and I didn't order the cake," I tell her.
"I know, it is a reward for being yourself, you are so adorable, but look so troubled," she tells me.
"Thank you so much and I am not troubled, " I respond.
"You are adorable," Logan says with a smile.
"Thank you, love," I tell him.
"How did it feel to be back in church?" Mr. John asked.
"It felt weird, I felt like a' lot of people was staring at me. I am not sure if it was because of the way I look or if they remembered me," I responded.
"If it is because of the way you look, it does say we are not supposed to conform to the world," he says.
"But it also says that God looks at our hearts, not our appearance," I tell him.
"Look, young lady, I am just trying to save you from eternal damnation, next week I want you to lose that makeup and ridiculous hair!" He whispers yells at me so none of the other tables hear.
I just nod.
"God loves you no matter what, he does love you for your heart, he is just being a Pharisee," Sam tells me.
I grabbed Sam's hand as I was about to cry.
"I love the way Juli looks," Logan whispers quiet enough to the point his Dad either ignored or just did not hear him.
The rest of the lunch was pretty much just Jessica and John talking. I could tell that Logan looked helpless once again. After a while we finally started leaving, I felt like it was a relief.
"Hey, mother, could Juliani hang out at the house?" Logan asks.
"Sure, "she says.
"How about my house instead?" I ask in the kindest way I could, without sounding rude.
"I have no problem with it as long as John doesn't," Mrs. Jessica says looking at him for a response.
"I want you to still be a virgin when you come back," he says.
"Well, this isn't awkward," Sam says sarcastically.
"Yes sir," Logan responses like it was a normal thing.
I bite my lip so hard I swore I could taste the blood, it felt super awkward.
"Dad, may I please take this wig off?" he begs.
"If you want to look like a delinquent sure," Mr. John states quite rudely.
He takes it off and starts to brush out his mow hawk. I love it, he then takes off his button up to then show a plain black tee. He looked like the Logan that I am falling in love with, not a clone from a picture-perfect family. What is considered a picture-perfect family? Does one even exist? It only happens in movies and even then they have flaws.
We get home and get out of the car.
"Thank you for taking me to church," I say primarily looking at Mrs. Jessica.
"No problem sweetie," she responds.
I grab Logan's hand and head to my house, when we get in I try to be quiet because I know my mother is passed out by now. When we get to my room Logan looks like he is about to break out in tears.
"I am so sorry for the way my dad treated you," he says.
"It is fine, I just keep thinking if God doesn't love me because of the way I dress," I tell him.
"Those are lies, God doesn't care about the way we look, he just cares what is in your heart."
I hug him tightly and feel super safe in his embrace. I looked over his shoulder at Sam and he gave me smile and it was sincere.
"Don't lose this boy," Sam tells me as I am holding onto Logan tightly.
I mouth to him 'I won't'. I then look into Logan's eyes and smile which then reflects on him. He leans in and kisses my nose.
"You missed," I tell him.
"I did," he says as he leans in and kisses my lips.
I couldn't help but smile at his lips.
