It was late by the time we got back to the ship, a few lanterns were strung from ropes and were set on top of barrels giving the ship a dim ghostly glow. The crew men were sprawled out around the deck some asleep others around a table or smoking and eating. The captain shouted orders at the crew that we needed to get under way, the crew men quickly started busying themselves, getting the ship ready to set sail. In no time at all we were sailing across open water, with Port Lair fading into in the distance.
"Well I'm on first watch tonight so I will see you both tomorrow." Asten said walking up to stand beside me, I gave him nod and watched him as he made his way up to the crows nest. He was so graceful in his movements it almost seemed like he was floating his way up. It wasn't until he made it to the top that I realized Obsidian was standing beside me. "I will take you to your room." He said, I nodded and started walking towards Asten's cabin when Obsidian made a noise. "I would prefer you to stay in my quarters from now on so I can keep an eye on you." I opened my mouth to speak but he cut me off. "That is not a request." He threatened and started to walk in the direction of his chambers and I followed. I knew this wasn't a fight that I was going to win.
"I don't understand you." I finally spoke up.
"I've never asked anyone to understand me, people just know not to question me. If anyone should be trying to understand someone it should be trying to understand you." He opened his door and let me walk in first and then shut the door behind him. I sat down on the edge of the bed while he stood by the door. "What are you playing at?" He asked. I fidgeted with my hands in my lap.
"Im not playing at any-"
"Oh really because you were being very careless today. Are you trying to get yourself killed? Is this all just some game to you? You are part of the prophecy! You can't afford to be so reckless!"
"I'm sorry for wanting to get off this godforsaken ship! While you men go off and have your fun you make me stay here where it is 'safe'."
"because I can't afford to lose you! You fail to understand just how important you are. We can't fulfill this prophecy with out you!"
" I never asked for any of this!"
"and you think I did?" He stated. "none of us had a choice Brea, what makes you so special from the rest of us?" I blinked with shock at his sharp words. How could he be so cold. After all we have been through?
"It seems to me that you have misjudged me, captain." I said choosing my words carefully. " I don't put my self above others like most people in higher classes do. I see people as my equals and treat them as such unless they treat me differently. NO matter the class they fall in. All I've wanted was to travel the ocean, and see the world, have an adventure of my own, and you have been denying me just that. You may have taken me away from home, and treat me better then you would a prisoner, but that is just it. How am I supposed to feel free when I am locked away like a bird in a cage? Not once have you asked what I have thought of all of this, if I am okay with this, if I agree to this," I went on.
"It's not like you are giving me a choice, but I can make my own choices and live my life the way I want to live it. All my life I have been pushed around and told what to do and how to do it. Well not anymore, from here on out I will be the one making my life choices." I finished. His face bore a confused and angry look. One of shock. He shock his head and took a step to words me when Asten came rushing through the door.
"Captain, another ship is coming upon us." He said frantically.
"Well just let them pass. We are in the middle of a conversation."
" But captain they are chasing us!" He stated as a loud boom sounded outside and we felt the ship rock to one side. Obsidian and I followed Asten outside and peered over the deck behind us. I recognized the ship, it was one that sat in the harbor the day before I was taken, the big brown ship with an English flag that sat on top of it. James. He had caught up to us. Obsidian shouted an order to the crew to prepare the canons, just as another canon was fired from the English ship. Within a matter of seconds the canons were loaded and obsidian yelled,
