Chapter Two - "It's the Start of Something New"
I scrolled down my FB newsfeed, reading posts, liking pics, and procrastinating in general.
I commented on Aisha’s new DP, writing “upcoming Ms World” knowing it would provoke a response. I had barely posted it before Rohan, Aisha’s boyfriend liked my comment. I laughed and was about to write something further before a Chat Head popped up from Dhruv saying “heyyyyy”
A smile immediately came on my face and I replied “hi J” back. After our first meeting he had added me on Facebook and recently we had been chatting quite a lot. I was surprised that he had actually remembered my name, but he seemed like a nice guy and I was getting to know him slowly but surely. The first time it was quite awkward but now we had passed the initial stages of getting know each other’s likes, dislikes, favourite foods, movies etc etc. I knew a bit about his life, he knew a bit about mine, and we were becoming friends.
After our filmy first meeting, I realised that he was actually very filmy, once I asked him “it seems like you really like movies right?”
His reply was “I like movies? I love movies. Movies are in my blood” which ofcourse is a Jaanemann dialogue, and he was a Salman Khan fan which I had already guessed at when he said he was “Dabbang” the first time we met.
We now spoke in a mix of Hindi and English, being equally fluent in both and we enjoyed chatting with each other.
“So whats up Diya?”
“Just reading...as usual”
“You and your books Diya”
“Yes me and my books Dhruv” I laughed, loving how we had become so comfortable with each other that we could tease each other and do a little masti.
“I don’t know how you read so much Diya. You will go mad one day reading so many books. I can’t even remember the last time I read a whole novel.”
“Gosh how can you say that Dhruv? That’s just shocking. You should read. You know reading is exercise for the brain.” I replied.
“Torture more like it. How can you read so much I just don’t understand.”
“Only booklovers will understand the pleasure of reading Dhruv. Don’t worry I will convince you of this amazing hobby one day. Anyway so what are you doing Dhruv?”
“Nothing yaar getting bored. I want to go out some place.”
“Then go. Go out with friends, enjoy yourself. Anyways we have holidays for 2 weeks, mock exams are over, finals will start soon so just relax a bit before finals come up.”
“Yes you are right”
“J”
I minimized the screen and then went back to looking at my newsfeed. After 5 minutes he still hadn’t replied then I opened a new tab and went to the Yahoo India site. I liked reading the headlines, not so much for the news themselves, but for juicy gossip about Bollywood, fashion trends, horoscopes and other such things. I opened up my horoscope and read the time was right for developing friendships. I hoped that would be true with Dhruv. I didn’t fully believe in horoscopes, but if something nice was written I just hoped it would come true and if it was something I didn’t like I just tried to ignore it, which I guess kind of defeated the purpose, but oh well. My mom always said that if you think positive, everything else will be positive, but I was a big worrier. I just worried over everything, Aisha said I thought too much, but I really couldnt help it. However with Dhruv, I just had a good feeling about this friendship. Maybe it really was the start of something new.
