Back to Diya and Dhruv...

Chapter Six - "You've captured my mind, my heart, my soul."

It was 14th January today, it has been one month since Dhruv had proposed to me. Last night he called me up at 12 am and wished me happy anniversary. He said every 14th will be celebrated because it was our day of love. I loved this idea, this was exactly my idea of romance.

Now I was on my way to meet him at the Rose Gardens, he said he had a surprise for me. I wonder what it is? This past month had been so beautiful, full of lovely moments we had spent together. I just felt so happy, nothing could spoil my mood, I was constantly in 7th heaven, cloud 9 or whatever the happiest place was. I was in love with life and madly in love with Dhruv, and he too was madly in love with me. I tried to stay grounded, trying to remember that uni would start soon and then things would have to settle down, but right now, right now I was just so happy that I felt as if I was walking on the clouds. Sometimes I wondered was this just an incredible dream because it often felt like it. It was just so perfect.

I reached the Parnell Rose Gardens, and sighed at the beauty of it. There were so many beautiful roses, and the scent was just heavenly. I fingered a large pink roses near to me, and smiled remembering this day a month ago, when Dhruv had given me all those roses. I had still kept them, pressed them between my books. I would treasure them forever.

I looked around to see where Dhruv was when I realized he was standing in another corner, with his back turned away from me, wearing a white tshirt and jeans. I decided to slowly sneak up to him and surprise him.

I slowly tiptoed towards him and was about to say Boo when he turned around and said “Hi my princess.”

I stopped where I was and said “Oh Dhruv, how did you know?”

He said simply “I heard your heartbeats.”

“Wait what? Really?” I asked, because I swear whenever I was near Dhruv, my heart started beating really fast.

He laughed and said “No, I just felt you were near me so I turned around, and there you were in front of me, just like a wish come true.

I blushed, He took my hand and led me to a bench where we sat down.

“So Diya, I have to go soon, you know uni starts next week so I have to get a few things ready so we cant stay long but I just really wanted to meet you today.”

“I understand Dhruv, that’s fine, I have to get a lot ready for uni as well. Have you selected your papers yet?

“I have, but I’m still struggling to arrange my timetable. God its such a headache” he moaned.

“I feel your pain, it took me three hours to do mine.”

“Hmm…once uni starts we both will become busy” he mused.

“Yeah that’s true. But don’t worry, we will still be in touch through our phones and we can still meet up between lectures for lunch during the week.

“Yeah. You know Diya, its strange life is going to suddenly become so different. Nothing will be like before. Everything will change. It’s a whole new beginning” he said.

“I know what you mean. Everything will change. New people, new subjects, new opportunities, life will take a different turn. I am just so excited. I cant wait to start my life. Yet I cant help wondering, what if its not all I imagined it would be?” I echoed a dialogue from Tangled.

“Some times I’m scared of this change, what if everything changes, what if nothing is like it was before, what if…” I trailed off.

“Don’t worry Diya, it will be amazing. Your whole life will change and you will love it. Don’t be scared of change, change is inevitable. Embrace the change, accept the change and you will love it. Learn to go with the flow and you will always be happy.” Dhruv pacified me.

I nodded and we both fell silent, lost in our respective thoughts until he said “By the way Happy Anniversary!”

“Oh yes Happy Anniversary” I said, smiling.

“I have a present for you” he said as he removed a small pouch from his pocket.

“Oh Dhruv, that’s so sweet of you!” I exclaimed. “But I don’t have a present for  you, I didn’t realize I’m so sorry. But I did make some cupcakes” I said removing a small box out of my handbag. I had made red velvet cupcakes last night with chocolate icing and had decided to bring some for Dhruv.

“Thank you Diya” he said, momentarily forgetting the present he had brought for me and paying attention to my one. That was one of the things I loved about Dhruv. Dhruv was such a kind person that he always put the other person’s happiness before his own, he valued feelings. I don’t even think it was  a conscious action on his part, it was just the way he was and I loved his nature. He took a bite and said “Mmmm Diya its heavenly.”

“Do you really like it?” I said anxiously.

“I love it.” He said licking the icing off his fingers making me laugh. “Anyway I was at the mall yesterday and I passed by and saw this, and immediately thought of you, so I brought it.” He explained.

“Dhruv… "

“Shush Diya…Don’t say anything… first give me a smile and then close your eyes and hold out your right hand”

I smiled and did as he said. I felt something on my wrist and slowly opened my eyes and looked down. I saw a charm bracelet, which had a sparkling heart shaped charm on it.

I gasped. “Omg Dhruv, its lovely!”

“Do you really like it?” he asked anxiously. “I mean if you don’t, we can go buy something else, I just really liked this, and I heard a lot of people are wearing them nowadays so I thought…”

“Are you kidding me? I love it! I have always wanted a charm bracelet. Its perfect! “ I exclaimed.

He gave me a wide smile and I just turned around and hugged him saying “Thank you so much Dhruv. I love you!”

“I love you too Diya” he said hugging me back.

“Can I say something Dhruv?” I asked

“Of course darling. Go on…I am ready to listen to you forever” he said.

I smiled and took a deep breath and said “Dhruv, I cant convey how much you mean to me. The little things you do to make me happy, the way you look at me, the way we have formed a bond, our unique understanding, the equation which we share is truly amazing.

You have captured my mind, my heart, my soul. I love our relationship. I promise you our relationship will never become something that divides us from our individual lives, because we both have different lives and priorities, but our relationship will enhance our lives. It will provide a solace, and it will make our lives happier.

We are both about to enter a new life like we just discussed and I want to be able to maintain this relationship forever and we will right?”

All this time Dhruv had been silent, a soft smile on his face, but I could see the emotion in his eyes as he nodded in reply. Looking at him, suddenly there were tears in my eyes too, and one tear rolled down my cheek.

“Hey hey hey…don’t cry Diya…” he said wiping the tear off my cheek. “Please don’t cry. I love you too and I completely agree with everything you just said. I love you I love you I love you.”

“Its tears of happiness” I mumbled as more tears rolled down my cheeks.

Dhruv gently cupped my face in his hands and said “no tears. I want you to be happy and smiling always okay. Now wipe those tears and give me a smile.”

I smiled and he started singing “Chura liya hai tumne joh dil ko…badal ke meri tum zindagani…

I laughed and just leant again him, happy and content.
