Dally's POV
As soon as the light peeking from the window hit my eyelids I could tell that I felt like shit. Mostly, this had to do with how I felt last night. First off, going to the hospital for Sodapop's best friend was not in my routine at all.

We learned that Lucia was eventually going to be fine, but needed some time to recover by herself at home. As much as me, Darry, and Sodapop preferred to take her ourselves, we also learned about how persistent her older brother could be.

"Lucia's brother gives me such a weird vibe..." I thought out loud.

Whatever that vibe was, I set it aside as I started to get ready for my day. The unbuttoned flannel on my sofa would be fine to wear again today, as well as the default pair of jeans lying on my floor.

As I physically got up from bed, something on my right ankle started to ache. I traced my fingers over the ache and found something red and bumpy.

Immediately, I took my socks off.

Can it really be? I thought.

Looking at my ankle more closely, I realized that an onyx shaded symbol was being inscribed on my skin, almost as if I was getting a tattoo in that very moment.

"Holy shit!!" I yelled. I actually got my soul mark.

The next thing I knew, I rang the Curtis phone out of excitement.

"Hello?" A giddy voice rang through the receiver.

"Soda!! I got my soul mark!"

I was so excited I couldn't even make out what he said. "Whatever, man, I'm coming over," I said, smiling.

Later that day (3rd person POV)

The gang had plenty of fun at the Curtis house: with Dallas happy about his soul mark, it seemed like all of the boys's spirits were lifted. They drank beer, ate cake, and even went outside to have a game of football before the sun went down.

Soda was worrying, of course. He kept trying to have fun, but his mind kept wandering to Lucia. He knew that she would physically be fine, but there was always something suspicious going on at her house that kept her from going to it.

In order to keep his mind off her, he put on a smile and joked around with the boys. Boy, tomorrow is gonna be one hell of a day, he thought.
