You Can't Do Both

Despite being very smart men, it took Zee and King a rather long time to even find Lilly in the first place. Coincidences and context clues lead them from place to place until they found themselves rushing into an empty living room with Cedric and Lilly laying on the floor.

"Bloody hell!" Zee shouted when he saw her. He ran to her, and King watched from the door way. It wouldn't do any good to stop him like that. He scooped Lilly's limp body up in his arms and looked at the bruises that decorated her skin.

"Is she breathing?" King asked as he finally made his way over to Cedric. He squatted down over his body and laid a couple of fingers against his skin. It was obvious from the cold that he was dead.

"Yeah," Zee's voice shook. He pulled Lilly into his lap and brushed her hair from her face. "What the hell happened?"

"Where the hell is Lucky?" King groaned.

"Lucky...," Zee whispered her name as if he'd almost forgotten that his sister was with her. "Oh, God."

"Stay here," King said. He swallowed spit in his mouth and tried his best to keep the throw up down. She could be there. She could be on the floor like Cedric in another room. She could be—no.

"King...," Zee said, but he sat still anyway. He watched King's broad shoulders move down the hall way. He watched him open doors with cautious hands and kick things aside with silent feet. "C'mon, Lilly, wake up. We need to know what in the hell happened here."

"She's not here," King finally called out, and the two of them sighed. It was both good and bad. It meant that she might still be alive, but it also meant she was lost all over again. It took them long enough to find that place, and it wasn't likely that they were going to find her soon enough to stop...whoever did that.

"Take Lilly back to the palace," King said.

"No, I'm coming with you," Zee said as he stood from the floor with Lilly in his arms.

"You can't do both," King said. His eyes dropped down to Lilly's bruises. "I'll find her. I swear it. Trust me."

Zee wanted to punch a wall, but he couldn't. All he could do was stare down at Lilly's dark lashes. They had no idea what even happened, but King was right. He couldn't do both. He couldn't carry Lilly like that and search for Lucky.

"Damn them," Zee sighed. "I'll take her back to Bella and Sarah. Then, I'm coming back."

"Alright," King said.

"Are you really alright to go out on your own?"

"Zee," King sighed, "it's Lucky."

Zee gave him a grim nod, and the two made their way out of the apartment. It was a miracle that they'd gotten there before the police. King knew how to avoid them, but something like that was bound to draw attention. They needed to get going.

"Which direction are you heading?" Zee asked.

"I wish I knew," King sighed. His eyes scanned the horizon. They looked back at the apartments and tried to piece together anything that would match. The only thing was...none of it really matched.

"What do you think happened?" Zee asked with a vacant voice as he stared down at Lilly's unconscious face.

"I think Lucky went off," King said and cracked the aching vertebre in his neck.

"Went off?"

"The hair thing," King said as he placed his hands on his hips and tried to stitch more together. "There's one person who will know what happened."
