Self inserts, let's agree we all have done it before. I have two self inserts from different fandoms (Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon) but you know what I did to my self inserts?? Just let them not interfere with the main cast every once in a while.
Okay, the main reason is why on earth did you made a self insert in the first place? Well it's actually self explanatory, to be in the story of course! But sadly, self inserts can be easily turned into a mary sue.
Sad, but true.
And why does majority of self inserts always fall into the mary sue pit? Well let's just say a self insert is basically you but better.
SAD BUT TRUE YET AGAIN-
But don't worry, my self inserts are basically me but with a relationship with my fictional crush with better hair-
But hey, I'm going to do a silly demonstration on how a self insert BBB fan fiction begins:
Rumors have said that a new member of TAPOPS was a female and the rumor was spreading like wildfire, they also said that she came from Earth and was assigned to help Boboiboy and his gang on missions.
Ying and Yaya were excited about this, especially the boys!
As the door opened, a girl with snow white skin, red eyes and luscious pink locks stepped in the room.
And then they all immediately became friends, the boys fell in love with her and she was promoted from a cadet to a captain with a snap of a finger and was given elemental powers just like Boboiboy's (oh and did I mentioned a triple split too?) from Ochobot because she's special.
The end.
And if whoever they ends up being with (example Boboiboy) Yaya hates her guts and wants to kill her? I'm sorry to the Boboiboy x Readers with Yaya as a rival (because I mostly see Yaya wanting killing off the reader) but I simply can't see Yaya doing that!
Sure she's very strict but she won't do anything too extreme like killing someone! Sheez.
When it comes to shipping your OC or your self insert put yourself in the character's shoes and ask yourself why would this said character will fall in love with me/my OC? But I'll try to cover relationships to a future chapter.
And you know what kind of self insert will work? Not saying that that said OC is a self insert. (Makes sense? No? Oh well, I tried)
Example: In Gravity Falls the creator said that the Pines twins were based off of someone in his family.
Still don't get it? Oh well,,, if you don't get it just-- just forget that happened-
But anywhooo! What I'm trying to say is the best way to make a self insert is to not make it too obvious! Sure you can add a bunch of your personality there but add different stuff for your self inserts personality too! Add a silly fear and weakness as well!
Again, it's completely fine to make a self insert, just don't go overboard, or else they'll end up being a mary sue.
