It's Time The Suffering Ends

The ride home was full of laughter and silly stories, I didn't realize I had needed to get away and laugh, but I felt so much better as I got into the elevator, a smile on my face and my stomach sore.

"That's better."

I look up at Sean a little confused. "What is, you're not making any sense you dork."

He simply smiles as the elevator lurches upward. "You're smiling and relaxed. You had been looking tense all day."

My eyes widened in shock and admiration. "You noticed that?"

He shrugs and gets ready to leave the elevator as the doors start opening. "Of course I did. I'm really perceptive, it's my special talent on the team. This is where I say 'Hasta la vista baby!'" With that stylish exit, the doors close leaving me alone with my thoughts again.

"That was fun, but now I have to figure out how I'm going to deal with Jack," I mutter to myself. "Not going to be a simple task."

Getting off the elevator I go to open the door to my temporary home and, low and behold the door refuses to open. I forgot. The boys are overly secure, I need the key code. I glare at the keypad in anger.

As I see it I've two options; ask the buildings door man for the code, or figure it out myself. Which could be easy and a lot more fun since my tech is all at my house, plus, I'm bored.

I decide to take my chances, sure the boys are super secure but I noticed one thing. This keypad is a newer model, it barely came out around the time the boys arrived, so I'm guessing the team had their locks replaced with the new one. If that's the case the worn keys have twenty-four different possible combinations and it might take forever unless I get lucky.

The two worn keys on the keypad are 4 and 1, which is stupid in all actuality, cause that is a most common way to do a password. They're called couplets and a rough 17% of the population uses couplets. So I'm banking my bets on two combinations; 1414 and 4141.

It seems to be chosen at random but using just them two numbers is so out of character, especially for Jack. I punch in the first combination.

*-1-4-1-4-#

The keypad beeps multiple times and blinks red, I shrug.

Okay, then it's the other one.....

*-4-1-4-1-#

The keypad remains silent, in turn causing me to panic.

Please God, don't let me have set off some kind of silent alarm!!!

As if it had to stop and think about if I was an imposter it begins to blink red and then promptly switches to a green light and lets out one long beep. The door clicks open.

Yes! I'm awesome!

I do a little victory dance totally hyped that I pulled it off.

I walk in the door smug and proud and close it gently behind me. A smile broad on my face.

"What do you look so happy about?" Jack says right in front of me. "Oh wait I forgot, your date huh? Typical girl." His arms are crossed and he looks upset still, but at least he isn't acting all awkward now.

I scoff and roll my eyes. "Not even. I was never given the key code for the condo," I point behind me and walk over to the island and sit on a stool. " but I totally figured it out, got it in only two tries. Mainly because, as it turns out, you're as average as 17 percent of the population. Using a couplet for a key code? Extremely unsafe. So you gonna tell me why you were waiting at the door for me?"
