I take my clothes to Jack's room and decide to hang them up in his closet, when I turn around I come face to face with Jack.
"Personal space Jack, or at least a warning." I sigh in relief.
"I brought your bag."
"Thanks. Oh, yeah, I forgot, I won't be eating lunch with you today, I forgot I promised Sean I-"
"Would eat with him." His eyes go dark and stormy. He's upset. "I was hoping you would forget about that."
I look at him confused as I throw my duffle bag in his closet, not really caring to unpack it at the moment. "What? Forget about it, why?"
Jack stays silent. Which is a real shock. Not.
"Jack?" I say to get him to speak, I sit down on his bed, my feet tired of all the walking, my body aching from the training. I know what my body needs, and that would be a bed, not a couch. "I'm sure eating lunch with him won't affect my performance in training or the teams."
"It's not that." He finally speaks, his voice full of frustration. He shuts his mouth quickly like he didn't mean to speak.
"Then what is it Jack, you can't really control my life, I had a life before I met you guys you know! Just like that stunt you pulled back at Walmart, he was my friend."
"He wasn't just your friend, I damn well know that you have feelings for him." He says angrily, but he restrains from yelling.
"So why did you do that? He will still be there after you guys have left for your next job or whatever, I'm not even sure I want to form a friendship with you guys cause after you finish this job you'll all be gone!" Jack crosses his arms. He's being defensive, closing himself off, I must have struck a nerve. "How can I? How can I get close to you when you shut me out?"
"What? I don't shut you out."
"Yes you do, every time it seems like we're getting closer you get quiet, and won't talk."
"You wanna talk? Fine," He storms over to me. "Let's talk. You wanna know why I shut you out? It's because yeah I admit it, I feel like we're getting too close, and I'm scared about what that could mean, I can't afford to- you know what, why am I telling you this, I don't owe you an explanation."
"You don't owe me an explanation? You think this doesn't bother me, make up your mind already! This is frustrating! If this is how you're gonna be, I don't want to deal with you." I make eye contact with him. "Let me know now so that I know whether it's worth my time to try or not."
Jack looked like he was battling with himself like he really badly wanted to say something but another part of him held him back. Then without warning his lips crashed into mine and before I could react he was gone. Literally. He spun on his heels and left.
What in the actual hell....
He left me sitting there stunned, what did he think he was doing? What kind of answer was that! I wasn't done talking Jack! My phone buzzes next to me, my 30 minutes to noon alarm. I've got 30 minutes to get ready before Sean comes over. I quickly shower, dry my wet hair and choose a casual-cute outfit from my duffle bag, my 'forbidden-to-wear' clothes.
I throw on a sheer black shirt with elbow length sleeves, blue jeans folded up a couple of times and my white and black Adidas. Simple, but cute!
I leave my hair down and natural, I didn't have the time or the care to do much to it. I grab my wallet, phone, and head out into the front room where Jack is sitting with food in his hands eating it in a moody way. I don't know what he's eating but it smells so good.
