Chapter 21 - Injured and Alone

I clutched the rose-ended dart in my hand and dragged myself to where Teddy was resting. He stirred as soon as I was settled next to him.

"Missy?" he mumbled.

"I'm here, Teddy." I barely managed to force the words out of my mouth. The sharp jabs of pain every time I moved were very ... well, painful.

"What happened to you?" he asked when he was awake enough to notice me trying to suppress my winces of agony.

"I'm fine." I hissed lightly. He furrowed his brow and shifted into his knees.

"Your knee." he said in disbelief. My leg was twisted at a dangerous angle.

"I'm fine." I repeated. He wasn't convinced.

"Who was it?"

"Forget it, Teddy!" I yelled sharply. "I'll be fine!"

"Stop be a goddamned hero! You're hurt!"

"Fractures heal." I stated in a matter-of-fact tone.

"They broke your leg?!" He asked aghast.

"Teddy." I growled in a warning tone. He held his hands up in surrender.

"Honestly," said a boy's voice above us. It was mocking yet utterly familiar. "You two have the worst luck I've ever seen."

There was a rustle of leaves and two figures jumped in front of us.

"Rose?" Teddy asked in disbelief.

There was no denying it. The girl in front of me had her fiery auburn hair falling in waves in front of her shoulders, tangled with branches and leaves. She was carrying a metal pipe and I could see the rose-ended darts sticking out of her trouser pockets. Her black clothes were muddy and her freckled face was smeared with dirt but there was no denying it. Rose Weasley saved my life.

"Be nice, Scorp. These are my friends." she said with a smile. A blonde boy stood next to her and smirked. She then gave me a quick apologising look. "Oh, I mean. Teddy is my friend." she crossed her arms and looked at me quizzically. "Where do we stand, Missy?"

You could hear a pin drop all the way from Panem with the eerie silence. The forest was at a total hush as if awaiting for a fight that I could start with Rose.

"You saved my life." I whispered. "That makes us friends in this hellhole and best friends when we make it out."

She grinned. "Glad to hear it." she glanced at the boy next to her. "This is Scorpius Malfoy. Scorp, this Teddy Lupin and Missy Crawford."

Malfoy flourished his hand and bowed low with a playful smirk. "Nice to meet you, shapeshifter and goddess."

"Shapeshifter" Teddy asked.

"Goddess?" I asked as well with incredulity after Teddy.

"Yeah." Malfoy said addressing me. "Lupin is a metamorphmagus and you're named after a Greek goddess. Duh."

I got that but was there a particular reason he referred to us like that? I decided not to ask. As if I had the chance to because Malfoy spoke again, interrupting my thoughts.

"And don't call me Scorp like Rosie does. My name is Scor-pius." he enunciated the name like it was two separated words.

"Yeah but Scorp is less of a mouthful." Rose replied with mirth.

"It's two syllables!" he protested.

She mouthed his name and counted from her fingers. "Three actually."
