The next morning no one's fucking awake. Bailey wakes up around nine according to her phone, and she locks it again as the sun stream in through the window. She pulls out of bed, pulling down her tank top over her stomach as she goes to use the bathroom.
She pulls on clothes and looks out the window. Some leaves has fallen to the ground, and the wind pulls them across the lawn. She pulls her hair to a pony tail and leaves her room.
She walks over the school grounds, her aim being the pool area. A few people are doing laps, so she sits down on a bench along the sidelines. A boy exits the locker rooms and Bailey smiles as Chase comes closer.
"Finally came to see me swim, or here for the view?" He stands in front of her with his hands on his hips, his hair damp from showering and black swimming trunks almost in height with her face.
She smirks up at him, blinking at the bright overhead lights.
"Both. I'm watching you, remember?"
Chase laughs and goes to stand at the edge of the pool. He takes a deep breath, chest heaving. Then he dives in and begins his swimming. She looks at the clock standing by the short side, noting the time of his turn. He does five lengths before stopping, gripping the edge to breathe a moment. Then he swims back slower to the other side, climbing up and walking over to her.
"One minute and fourteen seconds, I'm impressed." She holds up her hand to high five him, water splattering her has his hand hits hers. "You hold out longer then most guys I've been with."
He laughs breathlessly, still catching it from the swimming.
"And how many is that?"
Bailey smilingly scrunches her nose at the question, before answering.
"None." She lets her tongue fall in her mouth with a lewd wet sound. Chase shakes his head laughingly as he disappears back to the boys' locker room.
Bailey waits outside the building, closing her eyes and letting the last sun kiss her skin.
"Boo!" His hands hit her arm and side, making her squeal in surprise, glaring at her laughing friend. "Aw, come on."
"Asshole." She pushes away from the wall. He follows her track, walking through the grass, kicking leaves along the way. "What are we doing?"
"Well, anything you want." He waltzes up to walk beside her, walking sideways facing her. "We can take the bus to town. You haven't been there since you got here, have you?"
"Not before that either."
The bus ride takes about ten minutes, and the bus is fairly empty. When her shoes hit the pavement she looks around, along the shops on the main street, sighing and pushing her hands into her pockets.
"Where to?" Chase stands next to her.
She shrugs, turning to look at him.
"You've been here longer, you tell me."
He takes her to what looks like a hardware store, but shows to be an everything store, with all from decorative pillows to cheap plastic toys. They wander around the small shop for a while, picking up things and then rejecting them. Fake potted plants end up on a shelf with pocket books, and Bailey builds a shrine of electrical lights, flickering in
their plastic flames, around a garden gnome. Before they leave she buys a golden dream catcher, with purple and dark turquoise beads woven into the threads.
"Suffer from nightmares?" Chase holds the door open, the bell rattling above them.
"From dreams rather." Bailey throws the small bag over her shoulder. "Now where?"
"You choose." Chase motions over the halfempty street. "The world is yours."
