Caleb, Sarah, Kate, Pouge, Reid, and Tyler sit on the high chairs of the coffee shop, taking up the table that lines one of its windows. A couple of feet outside stands that girl, Bailey, with her back against them. They saw her jump of the bus a little further down the street a short while ago, and then she walked to stand in front of the shop. She looks like she's waiting for someone, probably her parents.
Reid messes with Tyler, as usual, and Sarah is locked in a conversation with Pouge and Kate. Caleb can't stop looking at Bailey, a feeling he can't shake, one he had since he met her. The wind catches her shirt, pulling it. By her feet stands her suitcase, and she has one more bag slung over her shoulder. Her shoes are worn down and dirty, her jeans wrinkled.
A car pulls up to stop by the curb in front of her. She pulls out the handle of the suit case and rolls it to the back of the car, opening the trunk. To his surprise Caleb sees that the driver is the gym teacher, Mr Tucker. Bailey slams the trunk shut and walks to the passenger seat.
As she passes the back door he notices a third person, one hidden in shadows sitting in the back seat. She opens the front door, climbs in and pulls it shut. Right before the car leaves the curb the other passenger moves, and the shadows fall from his face. Caleb feels a punch to his stomach.
It's Chase.
He gets off his chair so quick that it falls to the floor, earning looks from the others, but he doesn't care. He throws himself against the door, and scrambles out on the street. The car is too far away to follow. Caleb hears his own heartbeat in his ears and feels a cold stone drop in his stomach.
